When you make a ridiculous catch like this, the rule is that you must deliver a grand slam in your next at-bat. It's actually a rule, you didn't know that?
Well, that opportunity came for Reed Johnson, and well, he dribbled a ball to the short stop. Game over.
Still though, this has to be the catch of the year thus far. The new Nationals Park outfield goes on for days, does it not? That's some impressive ground covered to catch the ball just before the wall, diving headfirst into it.
Wil Nieves had the final highlight. Two-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 9th. Nats 5, Cubs 3.
Big Unit Big Win Randy Johnson pitched six solid inning for the Diamondbacks, giving them yet another solid effort from a starting pitcher. The big bat of the night this time around was Mark Reynolds, hitting his 7th HR. Do you think they just draw straws in the clubhouse before the game? OK, Upton, tonight's your turn. Go ahead and hit one out of her for run. DBacks 5, Padres 1.
Reminder: Marlins still winning NL East I don't usually pay too much attention to standings this early in the year, or even to everyone's records. It's not all that important, unless of course you start out 1-13. I say this because I keep forgetting that Florida is well above .500. Scott Olsen shut out the Brewers for 7 1/3 and his bullpen took care of the other 2 2/3. Florida scored three in the top of the 10th. Marlins 3, Brewers 0.
Indians near .500 The AL Central is getting closer to looking like what we predicted. Jhonny Peralta played the roll of Manny Ramirez and smoked Yankee pitching for a HR and four RBIs. It's worth noting Jason Giambi has now launched five HRs, two last night. Indians 6, Yankees 4. Any thoughts on last night's action, feel free to share it here.
