Sage Rosenfels LikeLy To Be Traded To The Minnesota Vikings
Sage Rosenfels Is Here To Solve Your QB Problem, Minnesota
The Minnesota Vikings have spent the last two years as a team that was a Super Bowl contender on both sides of the ball with the exception of one position: quarterback.

The Tarvaris Jackson experiment didn't work out real well, seeing as he couldn't seem to avoid throwing killer picks. Gus Frerotte went 8-3 in place of Jackson last season, but got injured before the playoffs. Needless to say, Jackson's second chance didn't go so well. So since Jackson has now proven to be a bust, and Frerotte is steadily approaching 75, the Vikings have decided that they need to do something big. They need to trade for a big time QB. A gunslinger, a man who can lead their Super Bowl caliber team to the big game. And that man would be.....Brett Favre Sage Rosenfels.

Wait, did I get that right?

Yes, the Vikings are in talks right now with the Texans to get their hands on Sage Rosenfels. And, believe it or not, this is the second consecutive year in which the Vikings have been interested in acquiring Rosenfels. Last year the Vikings reportedly offered a third-round draft choice for Rosenfels, but the Texans wanted a second-round pick. So what's Rosenfels going for this time? Reportedly a fourth-round draft pick. Which naturally begs the question, why the hell do the Vikings still want him?

Rosenfels went 2-4 during the 2008 season filling in for starter Matt Schaub. He threw 6 TDs to 10 INTs and had a QB rating of 79.5. He also did this:

There's your future, Vikings fans. I hope you enjoy watching Sage "Helicopter" Rosenfels this coming season. I know I will.

Rosenfels might suck, but he's still an improvement over Jackson/Ferrotte, which probably tells you just how awful those two are.  All the Vikings need is someone who doesn't make stupid mistakes and they're a contender.  Not sure if Rosenfels is that guy, but he's a move in the right direction.

The day Rosenfels is the answer at QB is the day your franchise is in trouble.  He is definitely an upgrade over what they have though, but that's not saying a whole lot.

Not a bad move for the Vikings...I actually question the Texans. Has Matt Schaub EVER started 16 games in a season? Rosenfels is better than a handful of starting QB's in the league. I think if the Vikings move a fourth rounder for him it could be a potential steal. In 12 career starts he's thrown more TD's than INT's and that was with a not so hot Dolphins and little better than mediocre Texans. Basically this is a move to allow the Vikings to let Frerotte go.

Check out Sage's game stats for each game he played in 2007, I think you'd be surprised.

Schaub's claim to fame and millions is being Vick's backup

The advantage of Rosenfels is he didn't demand to start unlike Frerotte, Cassel and likely also Garcia.  I expect the Vikings to pick up someone else when he becomes available later.

Matt Schaub, the Houston Texans' starter, seems to have a great future, if he can stay healthy. Houston's contract with Rosenfels, who is a great backup that would have a chance at starting for quite a few teams, only runs through the 2009 season.

The Vikings QB, having Adrian Peterson as a teammate, may not have as much responsibility for their offense's success riding on him as a Texans QB.  If Rosenfels turns out to be their answer at QB, he should still have a few good years left; if he's not the right one, they won't have invested too much.  Although he has been a great team player, he wanted a chance to compete for the starting job, which he wasn't going to get in Houston. Since the Texans would lose him after this season, why not get something for him while they can? I think this could be a good deal for both teams, provided the Texans have a plan in place for signing a comparable replacement.

Add a little SAGE and BAM....recipe for Success?

Being that Houston is getting rid of Sage probably means they're going to try and get a rookie QB, not to be a franchise QB or anything, but just to get some youth. Yeah Sage is a decent backup, but he's no spring chicken and if they happen to find a mid round jewell at QB ( Im telling ya Pat White is going to Houston) he'll definately get experience as much as Schaub gets hurt and if he plays well, i know not many rookies do,  im just saying they do enough right to keep winning, they may end up with a starter at that position.

Sage was an okay backup, he played well, but just like the Indy game showed, when it matters, he chokes. A rookie would be just as good as a squeamish vet.
