However, if he had been playing overseas, he can be signed at any time and be eligible for the postseason roster.
McGrady might be known best for his sleepy eyes and incredible scoring touch and leaping ability, however, there's a lot of tread on his legs, it remains to be seen how explosive he can be. However, in a defined offensive system under Popovich, his skill-set may just be perfectly suited to thrive. His willingness to pass the ball to a cutter, open teammate in the corner or dump it down low to the big man is rare in a 6'8'' framed former superstar.
At this stage in his career, he's just looking to escape the first round of the playoffs for the first time. McGrady was always a terrific talent, but unable to break into long-term success, even later in his career when he played alongside Yao Ming.
This may be his opportunity to be a key contributor to a team that has floundered down the stretch with nagging injuries and old age.
