A few days removed from releasing Stephen Jackson in a late-season surprise, it was announced via Spurs PR that they have signed Tracy McGrady, the seven-time All-star for the remainder of the season.  T-Mac last played for the Atlanta Hawks before ending his season in the playoffs on a knee injury. He recently was playing professionally in China averaging 25 points on 56% field goal shooting.

And you'd be right to ask it. However, there are simple rules; if the player had been playing in the NBA over the last year and he was waived by another team, he had to have been released by March 23rd.  However, if he had been playing overseas, he can be signed at any time and be eligible for the postseason roster.

McGrady might be known best for his sleepy eyes and incredible scoring touch and leaping ability, however, there's a lot of tread on his legs, it remains to be seen how explosive he can be. However, in a defined offensive system under Popovich, his skill-set may just be perfectly suited to thrive. His willingness to pass the ball to a cutter, open teammate in the corner or dump it down low to the big man is rare in a 6'8'' framed former superstar.

At this stage in his career, he's just looking to escape the first round of the playoffs for the first time. McGrady was always a terrific talent, but unable to break into long-term success, even later in his career when he played alongside Yao Ming.

This may be his opportunity to be a key contributor to a team that has floundered down the stretch with nagging injuries and old age. McGrady won't bring down the average age, but he will elevate the talent on the roster. Good luck T-Mac, always good to see you on the NBA hardwood.  This is what the dude is capable of:
