Sean Avery's Hilarious Goalie Screen on Martin Brodeur

I don't watch a whole lot of hockey, but I'm pretty sure I've never seen anything like this before. Sean Avery dancing in front of Martin Brodeur while the New York Rangers were on a 5-3 advantage, wildly waving his hands and stick in front of the goalie.

It was refreshing to hear the same thing from Martin Brodeur himself.
"I've been watching games for 33 years and I have .never seen anything like that in my life," Brodeur said. "If it's within the rules, it's within the rules. The official came over and said it probably wasn't something that should be done."
Avery even managed to cap this stunt off with a goal. Hilarious AND effective.

Brodeur was even impressed, although he could hardly admit it.

"Nobody should have to play hockey with a stick an inch from your face," Brodeur said. "But it wasn't a bad play. While he was doing it, I couldn't see anything. The two misses were just luck, I couldn't see a thing."

I would have never expected to see behavior like this from Sean Avery. What's next you are going to tell me that he hates French-Canadians.

I guess there is nothing illegal about it. Not much different, results-wise, than just standing in front of him. One slapshot in the back or the back of the legs and he won't do that again. Or how about a defenseman clear him out???

Agreed, even 5 on 3 someone has to let Avery's ribs meet butt end of stick.

It was plays like this that made him a fan favorite when he was in L.A. Remember the push ups he did after scoring a tying goal? Later, when it was found, that he was a distraction in the locker room and with players like Dustin Brown, opinions about Sean changed. I loved watching Avery play his heart out, (I even have a WWAD t-shirt), but I would see him packing before Dustin Brown. He works in NY because there veterans there that can put him in his place.
