Last night, Sid the Kid scored the game winning goal for the Pittsburgh Penguins in overtime against the Buffalo Sabres. The question though was, did Crosby commit a high stick penalty in the process? Well, let's take a look.
In all honesty, it's quite difficult to tell. It LOOKS like Sid's stick may have gone over the crossbar. And if you look at this screen pic here off to the right, I'd argue that it's actually over it. Of course, if you're a Pens fan, you'd probably disagree. And Pens Blog gives us this image to suggest that the goal was indeed legit.
In all honesty, the real problem here has nothing to do with preferential treatment for Crosby. Instead, as Puck Daddy notes, it's about the fact that the NHL is making a point to use instant replay to determine winners and losers yet somehow doesn't have an on-ice camera angle of the play. That's like not having a camera on the goalline at an NFL game.
Despite this reality, people will use this incident as yet another example that Sid the Kid gets preferential treatment by the league.
