We Americans can truly be jackasses when it comes to dealing with foreigners, but this just takes it to a whole new awesome level.
Yesterday the Spokane Chiefs became only the third U.S. team in 90 years to win the Canadian Hockey League Memorial Cup - in Canada (how ironic). And guess what the Spokane captain did almost as soon as he got his hands on the trophy - he broke it.
Bravo my friend.
Personally, I think this just raises the stakes in the inevitable war between Canada and the United States. They continue to call it the Canadian Hockey League despite American teams being in it, so we break their ugly-ass trophy in their country.
I fully expect an army of Canucks to come charging across the US/Canadian border tomorrow on armored moose.
I gasped as loud as the crowd did when the trophy broke, but it was clearly poor craftmanship as already stated above. You can see that Chris Bruton was holding the trophy both by the bottom and by the cup on top. The thing just broke in two, surprising Bruton as much as it did everyone else.
Spokane played with greatness, going 4-0 during the tourney. They played their hearts out. Tokarski's 53 saves in the Championship game sealed the deal for him winning the Memorial Cup MVP.
Chris Bruton did not break the cup, it was an unfortunate mishap. Stuff happens. I have to agree with hskrdave about the shoddy craftsmanship. Anyone who owns a trophy knows they're held together by screws. I'm sure the cup is already back in one piece.....CONGRATS DUSTIN TOKARSKI, MEMORIAL CUP MVP, AND THE SPOKANE CHIEFS ON YOUR VICTORY!

CONGRATS SPOKANE CHIEFS!!!!
The look of horror on the Captain's face was amusing, but that trophy looks like it was hosed off in the driveway and left outside overnight. What a piece of junk. Even the Stanley Cup gets refurbished every year.
As a resident of the only US state to possess a QMJHL team, my hat goes off to the Spokane Chiefs.
Although the Tri-City Americans jerseys are way cooler. :)

Oh yeah.... The Tri-City Americans' jerseys are VERY COOL! Did you know that Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens was a Tri City American?

On Sportscenter they said it was a replica, the real one was in the Hall Of Fame, or something.
