Taking the Checkered Flag: The Other Amazing Finish, Danica Makes Fool Out of Herself

Injury Rate already covered the NASCAR finish, but that was not the only great finish from Daytona this holiday weekend. This one came in the Rolex Sports Car Series. Everyone assumes Alex Gurney has won it, but Scott Pruett has other plans.

Watkins Glen was a boring race, until a caution came out. First, Danica did another stupid thing in pit lane, overaccelerating out of her pit and losing control, nearing hitting members of Scott Dixon's crew. For all her talent, the pit lane turns her into a Jersey driver on the freeway. Here's some reaction from those in the stands. In what was a banner day for female drivers, Milka Duno also wrecked during the yellow. Then, to complete the insanity, points leader Scott Dixon spun while warming up his tires, and having nowhere to go, Ryan Briscoe hit him. Those two were dominating the race, and their mishap paved the way for Ryan Hunter-Reay to emerge and take his first IndyCar Series victory. Full highlights can be viewed here.

Formula One

Lewis Hamilton had been struggling recently, and as such, his relationship with fans and the media was getting more and more testy. All is temporary forgiven now as Hamilton dominated a wet British Grand Prix. With his rivals struggling in the rain, there is currently a three way tie in the points between Hamilton and the two Ferraris, Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. No video available here, as F1 is notoriously non-YouTube friendly.

Thats an awesome finish.  Not to often you see an announcer end up looking as stupid as he did there.
