Tampa Bay Rays Continue Throttling Boston Red Sox, One Win Away From World Series
No Magical Red Sox Comeback This Year
10/15/08
It's good to be young, talented and innocent.
The Tampa Bay Rays continued their onslaught of home runs at Fenway Park last night, and are now one win away from the World Series after a 13-4 thrashing of the Boston Red Sox.
More shocking than the fact Tampa Bay is on the verge of a World Series berth is the fact that these games in Boston have been over before Bostonians could enjoy their first beer. Tuesday night the Rays were up 5-0 in the 3rd inning after three home runs. Monday night the Rays built another 5-0 lead in the 3rd and hit four home runs in total.
All is well in Raysland, but the obvious question needs to be asked: Can Boston comeback from 3-1 down? They've done it before.
It's not going to happen. These Rays are different than the Yankees team who felt that their pinstripes would carry them to the fourth ALCS win. Tampa wasn't expected to even be in the playoffs, and thus are playing incredibly loose as evidenced by their early success in Boston. Joe Maddon has created an environment where his young talent doesn't listen to what's said about them and isn't satisfied with just being here.
This Red Sox team is also different. That extra grit is missing as is the dominant starting pitching.
Who knows, maybe the Rays all of a sudden start to feel the pressure now that they're one win away, but I don't see this Cinderella even having a clue what time it is and knows that slipper will fit.
