Good morning everyone. Hopefully you've got yourself some warm coffee or a donut or whatever and you're ready to kick back and watch Team USA steamroll Angola.
By the way, you may be wondering, why do we have a live thread up for a game against Angola? Well, Angola played an important role in USA Basketball, as they were the first team that our NBA players beat in the Olympics. Yes, that means I'm talking about the Dream Team.
In 1992, the Dream Team demolished Angola in their first game of the Barcelona Olympics. And by demolished I mean utterly vaporized. Final score: USA 116, Angola 48.
Yikes.
Charles Barkley was, uh, how do I say this politely, a complete jerk during the game. You'll see the famous intentional elbow he gave to an Angola player. Because we all know its good to send a message when you're up by 52 points.
Anyway, not everyone was as big a jerk as Sir Charles. One of the most memorable moments from the game was actually at the end of it, when many of Angola's players asked the Dream Team for their autographs, and the Dream Team graciously obliged.
Will the Redeem Team beat Angola today by the same margin as the Dream Team did in 1992? I seriously doubt it, but it'll still be fun to watch. And be sure to cheer for Angola, as they deserve our support as well.
Looks like the US is finally awake as the teams head to the half...Angola is very athletic, but they don't have any structure. LeBron James is putting on a show. Nice 18 point lead.
