Ironically, Brett Favre's career began thanks to the Cincinnati Bengals. Yes, the same Bengals team that has had 11 QBs at the helm since Favre became the starter in Green Bay.
What's even funnier is that the Bengals suck so bad, they're actually taking some joy in this.
Bengals president Mike Brown summed it up on Tuesday.
"We gave him his first opportunity to shine, of course," Brown said in a press release. "We were leading the Packers and made the mistake of knocking Don Majkowski out of the game with an injury. Favre came off the bench and threw a couple TD passes in the fourth quarter and beat us (24-23). He started for them the next week and stayed there until now."
Interestingly, as much as people worship Favre now, there was a time when people actually thought Majkowski was a better QB - as the video below makes all too clear.
Mike Tomzcak, who would have been Majkowski's replacement, had been embroiled in a contract holdout and wound up in Cleveland instead. So the Packers turned to Favre, and he helped turn around the franchise, starting that day.
Just think about that for a second. Don Majkowski and Mike Tomzcak were ahead of Favre on the depth chart once. And people wonder why there are so few good quarterbacks in the NFL.
Although Majkowski clearly had Favre beaten in the blond mullet category.
