I'm not sure why you'd ever go to a Nationals game, but if you've ever been to one, then you've probably seen one of the greatest mascot spectacles in sports: The Presidents Race.
The race features the four presidents on Mount Rushmore: Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. Sure it's ripped off from the Milwaukee Sausage Race, but it's nonetheless awesome. Weekend Deadspin editor Christmas Ape even tried out to be one of the president mascots once. You can read about that here.
But here's the interesting thing, the race has been going on since mid-summer of July 2006 - I actually attended the inaugural race - and yet Teddy has never won. Not once.
Even weirder than that is that someone has actually kept track of Teddy's plight. A blog called Let Teddy Win has tracked every single race since this whole mess started.
He's currently 0 for 137, and working on making that 0 for 138 today. That's just about equal to the Nationals' winning percentage.
Although there's no known reason why Teddy's been forced to lose every race, my guess would be it's because he was the worst of the 4 participating presidents. Sure he put Oliver Wendell Holmes on the Supreme Court, but his Square Deal and regulation of industry plan sucked.
