Tim Thomas might have picked the wrong profession. Although he's an excellent goalie for the Bruins, he clearly doesn't get the chance to hit people enough. A week or so ago, he started a fight by hitting Andrei Kostitsyn from behind. This time, he tried to stop Jason Blake by tackling him, NFL style.
Thomas had been beaten by Blake for a goal earlier in the game, but he was determined not to let it happen again. So determined, in fact, that he came out and actually tried to tackle Blake as he came near the crease. He whiffed a bit on the tackle, but it was definitely a textbook football tackle, and certainly not a conventional hockey play.
In case you missed it, here's the earlier play from last week, when Thomas checked Kostitsyn from behind:

Thomas would have to change his technique to play in the NFL. Both of those were borderline helmet to helmet hits. I could see lots of penalties and fines in his future.
You can't hit a goalie. That's why I have a little problem with this "hit." Goalies have a full face mask and full pads and are untouchable. Run into them and it's a penalty. Touch them and some goalies will dive and draw a penalty.

I don't know about that---no penalty called on this hit.lol Check this out.

Ha, there is an exeption when the goalie runs out near the blue line. Also in that incident Brown tried to avoid him and Turco was at fault for leaving the goalie to and race to the puck, which was loose and anybody's puck at that point. But yea if the goalie ever runs out that far any contact is warranted (as long as it isn't malicious!)
