Timeout! University of Florida Student Andrew Meyer Tasered at John Kerry Forum
9/18/07

Your daily diversion from sports ...

The Gainesville police handled this kid as well as the Vols handled the Gators offense on Saturday. This is all over the news, but just in case you hadn't seen this mess, here you go.

Granted this kid was a nuisance, but why have a forum when you can't ask questions, whether they be poor or not? And while Andrew Meyer needed to be subdued somehow, I hardly think a taser was necessary. The guy was hardly capable of bodily harm to anyone other than himself.

Go Gators!

This guy is a douchebag.

He wasn't there to hear Kerry's answers, he was there to hear his own questions. There is a big difference there. This guy wanted something to happen. He probably didn't expect to be tased, but he wanted to make a scene, ask tons of questions, and be in the spotlight for his 15 minutes. Well, you're getting it now, Sparky!

Someone tried to get him to stop asking more questions, presumably so Kerry could answer and other students could have their fair turn, yet he kept going. They finally cut of the mic, and he took offense. Personally, I am getting tired of people who don't think they have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Now they shouldn't get tased just for that, but when you resist the cops, you're asking for it.

The police may have gone overboard when the tasered him when he was down, but it looked to me like he was still struggling with them. In many cases I think that police can be too quick with the tasers, but in this case, I think he deserved it, since he was combative right from the start with officers that were smaller than he was, plus if it had gone on longer, other students may have become involved as well.

He was warned he would be tasered. He was asked several times to stop resisting. He didn't. I really don't care that he got tasered. Maybe he should try listening next time instead of just yelling for help. What were the other students supposed to bum rush the security?
