I'm not a medical expert by any means, but by initial suspicion when seeing the type of hit Tom Brady took combined with his ability to move his leg yet feel a great amount of instability, leads me to believe he's suffered an ACL tear. According to Pro Football Talk, the New York Jets have been told that Brady did indeed injure his ACL.
It's unlikely we find out what type of injury Brady's left knee suffered, seeing as how Bill Belichick likely won't release any information until he's forced to by the NFL injury policy.
What does this mean for the Patriots? Well for starters it means that Brady would be done for the season and that Matt Cassel takes over the offense.
It was just the Kansas City Chiefs who don't exactly have the league's best defense, but Cassel was efficient this afternoon, completing 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards. Cassel is smart enough to know how to run the offense, throwing a 51-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss for the Patriots first score of the season and giving New England some confidence after having lost their All-Pro QB.
We'll continue to update you on the status of Tom Brady's injury, but going with the assumption he has a torn ACL, what do you expect of New England this season?
They're still in a horrible division, so who knows. Beating the Chiefs really only proves that you're the 27th best team in the league, so I wouldn't be basing any expectations off of this game. I guess we'll find out just how good Maroney really is.
Another thing to note... this team isn't particularly young, and their window to win a title as currently constructed is probably over after this year.
Edit: Also, karma is a b^(#$... k, I'm done with tihs topic.
They play a very weak division, and still have a very good team. They still could be a playoff team, but it becomes a tougher path.
But remember, it wasn't long ago that Drew Bledsoe going down would be the death of the Patriots, because this Brady schlub was going to be QB. Not saying that Cassel could be good or not, but anything's possible.

Oh I expect Maroney to be out within the first 4 weeks of the season - I do have him on my Fantasy Football team this year, so it's inevitable.
Brady will be 32 years old with a bum knee next year. Will be interesting to see how that plays out. Luckily for him, mobility has never been the reason for his sucess.
I'm hardly happy about this either, but without Brady, I really can't see them doing anything. It's a shame, but that's what happens when you lose the league MVP (who's a QB).
