Bernard Pollard Owes A Lot Of People Money
9/8/08
When Bernard Pollard busted up Tom Brady's knee yesterday, he did more than just end the Patriots' reign of dominance. He also crushed the dreams of about a million fantasy football players out there. And it now appears that Pollard may have a lot of debts to repay, like $150 million in debts.
How is this possible? We'll let some fantasy expert guy explain.
Brady's incredible year last year, which included a record 50 touchdown passes, meant that about 50 percent of the people who drafted Brady last year won their leagues, Jeff Thomas, CEO of SportsBuff.com, a fantasy sports site said. With the Brady hype not bought by all, Thomas said that it was believed that about 30 percent of leagues this year would be won because of Brady.
With about $500 million in fantasy prizes on the line, that's a $150 million shift in dollars. And some think that's at the low end of the spectrum since the total value of office pools is tough to ascertain.
I tell you, with our nation's economy in such turmoil, I was convinced the only way I could get ahead these days was to have Brady on my fantasy team. His return rate was higher than the stock market entering this season, and now it's all gone. And probably my apartment soon too.But hey, Chris Simms should be available real soon. Although he's missing a spleen.
By the way, I had forgotten about this, and it won't make Pats fans feel much better, but Deadspin reminded me that Bernard Pollard was the guy in Hard Knocks last year who did a stripper dance in the locker room.
Maybe he can work off some of his massive debt that way.
