I really thought that by the time Tommy Bowden had led Clemson to a 3-3 record this season, he was universally loathed in South Carolina.
Sure he took Clemson to 8 bowls in 10 seasons, but those bowls included the less-than-awesome Champs Sports Bowl, The Music City Bowl, and the Preparation H Bowl (one of those may not be a real bowl).
Plus this year's team was supposed to be in the national title hunt, not getting its butt handed to it by ACC doormats. But as bad as things got, there was at least one man out there who still had faith in Tommy Bowden, and couldn't bare to see him get canned. Let's listen in to Dave of Mount Pleasant on the Bowden firing/resignation/whatever-the-hell it was:
That's precisely the reason why I'm convinced that college football fans are the closest thing this country has to soccer fans. They take everything way too seriously. Although, on the plus side, at least they don't typically beat policemen with drums during riots.
By the way, as great as the Clemson fan is on the phone, he'll never top this, um, somewhat overly emotional wrestling fan.
It's still real to me, dammit!
Hey, whatever you say buddy.
