Utah Utes Join the Elite Brotherhood of Athlete/Rappers... A Group That Needs to be Done Away With ASAP
by Pat

After reading 100%'s blog on the Chinese table tennis team and their subpar musical abilities, I decided to look around a bit more, and see which other athletes have made the same mistake. Well, we can add this year's Utah football team to the list of misguided athletes who think it's cool to rap about their season. For some, like the 1985 Bears, everything ends up going pretty well. But others, like Atlanta's Air Force (AKA the 1986-87 Hawks) and Josh Jarboe, formerly of the OU football team, things just didn't quite go as planned.

You Been Blinded
provided us with this priceless moment in Utes history, which you can now see for yourself:

While this video is about a 6 (at best) on the Hilarity scale, it DOES give us a chance to look back at other masterpieces... and disasters. One of the best raps ever featuring athletes was undoubtedly the Super Bowl Shuffle.

The fact that the Bears really DID win the Super Bowl is what gives them the edge of the 1986-87 Atlanta Hawks, who repeatedly claimed that no one could stop them, when in fact the Detroit Pistons found it to be quite easy, beating them in the 2nd round of the playoffs in only 5 games.

Tony Parker must have watched that video, because for some strange reason, he felt the need to come out with an entire album. Fortunately it's in French, so we'll most likely never be subjected to it in American pop culture. But he actually had a collaboration with Jamie Foxx, which lent some legitimacy to TP's album. Here's a sample:

It doesn't make up for the fact that he's still French, and he still plays on the Spurs, but it's a lot better than what Ozzie Guillen and Sweet Lou Piniella came up with:

Not sure why, but Chicago sports figures just can't resist the lure of the microphone. But it might be best if they tried a little harder to stay away.

Are there any other sports figures that never should have stepped up to the mic?
