Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/19

Seeing Double? Nah, it's just the goofy NHL shortened season schedule! [Live NHL Thread]

Blog Photo - Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/19Greetings, puckheads! This strange schedule has given us some crazy games, and no doubt some extra chippy-ness in the games lately. It's bad enough that these teams see each other so often this year without an interconference game to break things up a bit, let alone playing the same team several times in a week. Tonight is no different; the Kings just beat the desert dogs 4-0 at Staples last night only to face them again at Staples tonight. I expect things to get ugly. Oh yes, you can bet I'll be watching. As for the rest of the lineup, let's take a look...(all times Eastern, as usual).

7:00pm
Game: Rangers (14-12-2) @ Devils (13-10-6)
Broadcast: MSG, MSG PLUS 2
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I really don't know who to pick in this one. On the one hand, if Brodeur is healthy enough to start, the Devils may have new life. They beat the Rangers in the first matchup. The Rangers are meh lately. On the other hand, I think the Rangers can beat the Devils. I really think they can. Dammit. Okay, Rangers *banging head against brick wall*

BK - The Devils really need Marty back in the worst way. The Rangers might be a little tired from last night's game, but at least they don't have to travel very far for this "road" game. First to 3 wins it...Rangers.

Jess - What are the Devs going to do when Brodeur has to retire? Just...wow. Of course, their play without him makes this a tougher choice, because normally I would be tempted to pick them over these faltering Rangers but now I'm not so sure. Ack. Rangers.

7:00pm
Game: Senators (15-8-6) @ Islanders (13-12-3)
Broadcast: SNET-E, MSG PLUS
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I have to take the Sens here. I lost my loyalty to them for a little bit there and they won, so I have to believe they can win again tonight.

BK - If Ottawa loses this after how impressive they've been against the best teams, they have a huge problem. Sens without question.

Jess - I don't know a stitch about either of these teams. I'm playing copycat and going with the two of you - Sens.

7:00pm
Game: Panthers (7-16-6) @ Hurricanes (15-11-2)
Broadcast: FS-F, FS-CR
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - I have to believe the Hurricanes are in first place for a reason, even though they aren't strongly in first place. They just kind of fell into it. The Panthers seem to have hit a mid-season slump. Gotta take the 'Canes

BK - Canes, and if this is anything less than a rout I'll be shocked. Florida is far and away the laughing stock of the league this year.

Jess - Hurricanes, obviously.

Blog Photo - Tuesday Night Hockey Open Game Thread 3/197:00pm
Game: Predators (11-12-6) @ Blue Jackets (11-12-6)
Broadcast: FS-TN, FS-O
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - These two teams have exactly the same record. The Blue Jackets have come on a little stronger lately, showing they do want to play hockey, not just be a laughing stock. Blue Jackets are on a win streak while Preds are on a losing streak, and wrapping up a road trip. I have to take the Blue Jackets tonight, even though I think the Preds could give them a run for their money. It might even come down to a shoot out.

BK - I'm taking the Preds to get the win on the road behind Pekka Rinne who will outshine Bobrovsky.

Jess - Hmm Debi you make a good point. However, Preds are looking a lot better (despite latest losing streak) offensively than they were early in the season. I think the fact that these two are on their respective win-loss streaks will play into it a bit differently here. Both break their streaks - Preds win.

7:30pm
Game: Sabres (10-15-4) @ Canadiens (19-5-4)
Broadcast: RDS, TSN, MSG-B
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi- Habs

BK- Les Sabres sont lousy. Les Habitants vont gagner ce soir, un grand margin!

Jess - Oh my. Habs.

7:30pm
Game: Capitals (12-15-1) @ Penguins (22-8-0)
Broadcast: TSN2, NBCSN, CSN-DC, ROOT
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi- I hate this. Pittsburgh

BK - What a shocker, it's on the network formerly known as Versus because it's Crosby v. Ovechkin. Season sweep, season sweep! Let's go Pens, make it 10! You know damn well who I'm picking for this one tonight.

Jess - This is another one that seems like a no-brainer, but will the Caps come out tough against the Pens tonight? They could. I'm tempted to go that way but I'm not going to. Playing it safe...Penguins.

8:00pm
Game: Bruins (19-5-3) @ Jets (15-12-2)
Broadcast: NESN, TSN-JETS
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - This is a really hard one to pick. The Jets have come on really strong lately, but lost to the Sens the other night. Boston had to really fight against Pittsburgh, but lost anyway. They might look at this game against the Jets as a bit of a walk in the park, and if they do, they will not win. However, if they go into the game strong, it could be tough for the Jets to fight them off. I think I gotta take the Jets, even so.

BK- I agree with Debi, this is a toughie. That said, I think Boston rebounds and wins this one on the road. Winnipeg is playing a heck of a lot better, but I think the Bruins defense will be the difference in this game.

Jess - Upset special? Sure, why not.

10:00pm
Game: Blues (16-10-2) @ Canucks (13-9-6)
Broadcast: TSN, FS-MW
Bet QBucks on this game!
Picks:
Debi - Bahahahahaha All the Canucks fans around here are calling for a new coach. I'm just snickering. Blues it is.

BK - The Blues were off last night and the Canucks crapped the bed against the visiting Wild. I think the Blues will prevail on the road with the defense they bring.

Jess - What is going on with the 'Nucks? Not that I mind, it's just bizarre. I like to see the Blues win, for whatever reason, unless it's against my Ducks. I think they make me happy tonight.

10:30pm
Game: Coyotes (13-12-4) @ Kings (16-10-2)
Broadcast: FS-A, FS-W
Bet QBucks on this game
Picks:
Debi - The Kings DO look like Champions. They have this one tonight, I believe.

BK- Wait, didn't this just happen last night?! This schedule is really throwing me for a loop, I've never seen the same 2 teams playing each other back-to-back regular season games in the same venue 2 nights in a row in all the years I've watched hockey. I'm thinking the same result happens tonight at Staples, Kings win again.

Jess - I'm not sure Phoenix will get their 4th goose egg in a row, but I don't think they win tonight either. I also predict some fun...

And since this may be my last time posting before they put up the new week, I'm sharing my very very very favorite of the NHL.com "best of the week" videos: Goalie Godliness in Best Saves! (3/15)

Looks like it wasn't the prettiest for the Pens, but they found a way to win.  10 in a row!

After leaving him out to dry in this period, the Blues defense better pay for Jake Allen's dinner tonight

Cuck the Fanucks.

Blues look like the team that played last night, not the Canucks.

Blues own the first period against the Canucks but can't get a shot by Cory Schneider.
