Tyson Gay has reiterated that his leg has completed healed from his severe cramp suffered in the US Track & Field trials, but the results of the 100m dash semi's in Beijing on Saturday tell a different story.
The American record-holder, and one time fastest man in the world, failed to even qualify for the 100 meter dash finals. Gay finished fourth in his heat, and surprisingly ended up as the third fastest US sprinter, behind Walter Dix and Darvis Patton.
He couldn't hide the disappointment:
“Devastating. “I’m pretty upset. When I get back to the village, it’s really probably going to set in. My family is here. Everyone at home is supporting me, and I just feel I let them down a little bit.”
I know he's not looking for any excuses, but a 10.02 is a sign of injury for Gay, who should breeze to sub-10 second times in this event.
