The United States Olympic basketball team romped to victory over Germany today, 106-57, wrapping up pool play with a perfect 5-0 record.
The U.S. took the lead just 3 seconds into the game, and things only got worse from there. For the Americans, Dwight Howard led the way with 22 points and 10 boards, while LeBron James added 18 points. The team shot over 42% from 3 point range, something they will need to maintain as they progress through the medal games.
As for the 2 German or pseudo-German stars, Dirk Nowitzki and Chris Kaman, they were a combined 7-19 from the field, with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort. After the game, Kaman said "Nobody is going to beat them. No way, it's just not going to happen."
Next up for the Redeem Team: Australia - a team the U.S. struggled to beat 87-76 in a pre-Olympics exhibition match a couple of weeks ago. Now that the United States team has found their stride though, Australia will be in for a tough one.
