According to Dana White, Anderson Silva's next middleweight title fight might come against the only guy to beat Rich Franklin in as dominant fashion as Silva did. Vitor Belfort made extremely quick work of Franklin on Saturday night at UFC 103, winning at 3:02 in the first round, only 3 seconds longer than it took Silva to beat Franklin in their first fight.

Rich Franklin has been one of the best in the middleweight division aside from the champion Silva, but can't seem to find an answer whenever he fights against The Spider. 2 of his 4 career losses have come to Silva, and they lasted a combined 9:06. No matter what Franklin does against anyone else, it's hard to justify giving him another fight against Silva, since he was dominated so thoroughly.

Now, with Vitor Belfort coming into the UFC after a long absence and destroying Franklin, there's hope that he might be able to give Anderson Silva a challenge, which is something we really haven't seen in the octagon. Belfort's striking might be the best in all of MMA, and he's the one person who might actually be able to stand and exchange with Silva. He's also outstanding on the ground, although we haven't seen a lot of it in his fights. Back when he was young, however, he received his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Carlson Gracie, and was even referred to as "Vitor Gracie".

There's no one else in the UFC's middleweight division with the combination of skills that Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort have. While Silva might still win their fight, it looks like we finally have someone who can challenge him. And that's the best thing to happen to the UFC in a while.

0	We have seen stranger things happen in the past (Serra vs St Pierre #1), but I'm going to take a wait & see attitude on this one. If it happens, all the better.

1	it might of just been a fluke, everyone gets caught. but if it was legit destruction of rich franklin then maybe it could mean a tough fight for silva on the horizon

1	(Edited by johnsward66) Only time will tell; but I hope so. When one thinks about how long a career he has had.... (he came into the UFC before Randy Couture)....& all the trials & struggles he's endured, it's just amazing he is being discussed as a threat to the vaunted " #1 Fighter In The World." To Clarify; I hope he remains consistent.

0	although he was very young, he was only 19 at the time and was under incredible pressure where areas randy couture originally just saw it as something to do when he wasn't wrestling and was mid 30s at the time so he isnt past his age prime just yet

1	I think it would be awesome. Silva has no competition at 185 and a GSP/Silva fight just isn't a reasonable request either in my opinion because Silva is much bigger than GSP. That said, Vitor is the only other true challenger. I think Marquardt gets handled again if he gets another shot at Silva.
