Washington State Has Open Tryouts For Scout Team Quarterback
You Too Can Be A Quarterback For Washington State
10/7/08
The Pac-10 is having a bit of down year, but you could say there's a pretty logical reason for that. Almost every starting quarterback in the conference is injured. Jake Locker up in Washington is done, UCLA's seemingly been using 7th-string QBs for two years now because of a litany of injuries, Oregon has also lost their starting QB, Mark Sanchez of USC might not play this Saturday, and Washington St. had two quarterbacks suffer spine injuries in a game against a I-AA opponent. Are you kidding me? That's a higher body count than Rambo II.
But for Washington St., the loss of their QBs has been so bad that they literally didn't have anyone to be the QB for their practice squad. So, you know what that means. Send out a message to the student body.
Yep, coach Paul Wulff decided that hopefully he could dig up a warm body to step in and throw a few darts to receivers. Yesterday, 29 guys showed up and went through drills such as throwing on the run and throwing a ball through the uprights for some reason. Below is video of the hilarity.
As far as anyone can tell, nothing like this has ever been done before at a BCS school, although does Washington St. count as a BCS school this year? Because I'd say no.

Anyway, the finalists were Jon Koepfgen, Mark Gray, Peter Roberts and Cameron Gredler - who will all soon be household names...in their own homes. The coaching staff met last night to make a decision, and will post the winner on the window outside the football office at 9 a.m. today.
Sounds awesome. I'm sure they'll get all the girls, until of course they reveal that they're actually on the football team.Washington State will take a quarterback anywhere it can find one [Dr. Saturday]
