Washington State Is Searching For A Coach and the Committee Is Screwing It Up (College Football Rumors)

Can we all agree having John L Smith back in college football would good? Sad, but true, I sort of miss the ol' Wile E. Coyote and his mannerisms.

Washington State is one of many schools searching for a new coach and John L. Smith has made the short list. Please, please Cougars, give the man another chance. He's actually not that horrible a coach, just the worst possible fit for Michigan State. Thank you, Ron Mason.

In other coaching search rumormongering:

Michigan - The hot name on the always reliable message boards is Marvin Lewis and they're still not letting Les Miles go. I realize he's a Michigan man, but I'm not sure what the big hubbub is around him. Good coach for sure, but is he a must have? Other names out there continue to be Ron English, Jeff Tedford, Mike DeBord and Brady Hoke. Any others you've heard?

Arkansas - Guess who's name is coming back? That's right Gus Malzahn. Also, the Razorbacks keep putting Raiders coach Lane Kiffin near the top candidates. Would he really bolt after year one? Skip Holtz is a more reasonable get, and who I'd put my money on after a few more rejections.

UCLA - Three big names: Mike Leach, Norm Chow, and Steve Mariucci. While I'm rooting for the pirate to get the job, it sounds like Chow is a potential leader. That presents an interesting cross town rivalry and we can all agree Chow is an offensive genius, at least in comparison to Charlie Weis. Now, can Norm recruit guys like Reggie Bush to make him look good?

Feel free to make this your rumormongering headquarters for today.

Michigan wants Marvin Lewis now?  Wow... They do realize that they are Michigan and all they need is a good gameplanner?  The talent will come regardless of who the coach is.

Just as long as John L. doesn't show up within a 100 miles of Louisville, I'll be fine.

A friend of mine was his "dog sitter" and she once got a peep of him just wrapped in a towel.  She is STILL traumatized by the site and has traumatized me just by telling me all about it.

And now I'm traumatized from just reading that. Then again, his coaching stint at Michigan State was one big traumatization for Spartan fans.

I can't complain much about his stint at louisville but he sure is shady.

The Wazzu gig is not "THE place to land" for any already name-worthy coach.  Unfortunately for the Cougars, the town of Pullman, Washington is figuratively in the middle of friggin' nowhere (6 hours east of Portland, and 2 hours south of Spokane).  I know... I've driven there.  It's beautiful country, but I'd say it's pretty difficult to get top-notch recruits up there.  A coach willing to pay his dues and make a name for himself (a la Tony Bennett in basketball) should go for the Cougar job.

It is beautiful but I think your assessment of "figuratively in the middle of friggin' nowhere" is inaccurate. It's literally in the middle of friggin nowhere - worse than CWU. And for being a "University Town" it sure is a quiet area. Eugene is huge compared to Pullman.

The only reason I said figuratively is because Moscow, ID is nearby. LOL
