Some of you probably think hell has frozen over, what with the Royals and the Orioles in first place in their divisions. But rather than prepare for the impending apocalypse, we should instead try and figure out how they've done it. For the Royals, it's obviously because they did this extremely racy calendar.
But the Orioles, they're more difficult to explain, that is until I found out they dropped possibly the worst team anthem - Orioles Magic - in the history of sports.
Yes, the Orioles early season can only be attributed to one thing and one thing only. Gone is the campy, ludicrous, and stupid Orioles Magic tune. The team decided to ditch the traditional song after a brutal 6-2 loss to the D-Rays on Opening Day.
In the past four games, the Orioles have darted out of the dugout before the first pitch to "Click, Click, Boom," a song by the rock band Saliva - and didn't lose a game. They even had a ninth inning rally to beat the Mariners.
Aubrey Huff, who called Baltimore "horse----" in the offseason, may have had the best line about the anthem: "It was great for the '80s." Yes, yes it was. But it's now 2008.
All I can say is this, stick with Orioles, this may be the only chance you have in the AL East.
