This year has certainly been a treat if you like NHL fights. As you might have seen, Critical Fanatic has already brought us Georges Laraque vs. Shawn Thornton and Riley Cote vs. Erik Godard. But here’s something very unique (at 2:15 mark):
Some lady is arguing with Sean Avery while he's in the penalty box. Has she lost her mind? I know Avery did an internship with Vogue magazine, but he just kicked someone’s ass in a fight and you want to pick another one with him? Whether this guy has his hockey gear on or not, I’m not going to be the one telling him he did something wrong.
And now, fights galore, because I know that’s what you really want.
Shane Doan vs. Dustin Byfuglien
All right, this isn’t the greatest of all fights, but did you see Don Koharski wave the other referees off when these two started to fight? Gary Bettman must have had a meeting this offseason and said, let ‘em go. Seriously, there are way more fights this year than in the past, and it’s freaking awesome.
Kurt Sauer vs. Ryan Getzlaf (at 48 second mark)
Look here, another linesman just letting the two go. Also, check out the awesome head bash into the boards at the 1:00 minute mark. Ouch.
Cody McCormick vs. Jarome Iginla
Give it up for Jarome Iginla. That’s his 41st fight in his career, and he’s the captain for the Flames. That’s what I call leading by example. Keep it up Jarome.
The Granddaddy Of Them All: Buffalo vs. NY Islanders
So once again, thanks to all the referees just letting guys go. It’s been a treat so far and I can’t wait for whats to come.
