Shockingly, we've already entered this portion of the calendar. It's time to do that year in review sort of thing, so over the final days of 2007 we'll be looking back on the top sports events as highlighted by FanIQ. Since I'm hardly a wordsmith, you'll notice this amounts to a video recap ...
Who could forget this play and the conversation that ensued over the following hours, days, and weeks.
In the final minutes of Game 4, Cheap Shot Bob body checked Steve Nash into the scoring table right in front of the Suns bench. Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw momentarily left the bench and were subsequently suspended for Game 5. Turns out this was Robert Horry's latest clutch shot, because the de facto NBA Final Series was changed and the San Antonio Spurs took control en route to their 4th championship in 9 years. This ruling from David Stern generated some very passionate discussion and introduced us to the term 'palaver.' It's a fair rule, but I think we all can agree some gray area is needed when players instinctively leave the bench, but then quickly retreat.
Thanks to Tim Donaghy, Game 4 was just the beginning of a long summer questioning the NBA officials impact on the current state of basketball.
Ugh... it makes me sad that my favorite league has had two straight tainted championships. Here's to hoping whoever wins the NBA Finals this year, wins it without controversy.
