Vidic confirms Manchester United exit at the end of the season
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has announced he will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season. The center back is already in the final months of his contract with Manchester United and although he could get a new contract with the club, despite his lack lustrous form, Vidic has decided to seek new challenges.
The 32-year-old Serb confirmed speculation about his exit through an interview on Manchester United’s official website. Rumors about the end of Vidic’s career at Manchester United have been around the block since the summer last year. The center back is interested in making an overseas move and ruled out the possibility of joining another Premier League club.
“It's the last year of my contract and I have had eight wonderful years here. My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career,” Vidic said. “I never could have imagined winning 15 trophies and I will certainly never forget that fantastic night in Moscow, memories that will live with me and the fans forever. However, I have decided that I will move on at the end of this season. I want to challenge myself again and try to make the best of myself in the coming years.
“I'm not considering staying in England as the only club I ever wanted to play for here is Manchester United and I was lucky enough to be part of this club for so many years. I've got a few options to move on and I will choose the right one for me and for my family.”
Vidic ended his statement by saying that he was going to spend the rest of the season concentrating on bringing out his best for Manchester United. The Serbia international said that he hoped news about his exit would finally end talk about his future.
Vidic, who was signed in from Spartak Moscow in 2006, formed a deadly partnership in the defense with Rio Ferdinand. The duo is hailed as one of the finest defensive pairs in the history of football.
Inter Milan are already showing interest in acquiring Vidic’s services. Rumors suggest the Italian outfit has already reached Vidic seeking a gentleman’s agreement. Vidic hasn’t revealed the possible destination after his stint with Manchester United. Patrice Evra is also expected to follow Vidic’s example and leave Manchester United this summer.
