Vikings LB implores fans to get "super-duper drunk" for Sunday's game
"We have to play accordingly and our fans have to show up accordingly, which we know they will," linebacker Chad Greenway is quoted as saying after Sunday's road loss to Green Bay. "Hopefully, they're super-duper drunk. So drink liquor, not beer."
Greenway followed up with some advice on for Vikings fans on how to get super-duper drunk. "I would say morning drinking," Greenway told the Star-Tribune. "Why not? You could pull an all-nighter. Then you'd have the drunk, tired guys who will really be obnoxious."
Then you'd have people asleep in the stands, more likely.
Sunday's game against the Bears is urgent for the Vikings because they're two games back on both Chicago and Green Bay in the NFC North. The wild card looks unlikely, as the Vikings have lost their head-to-head matchups with most of the competition. Minnesota is 5-1 at the Metrodome. but 1-5 on the road. In other words, they like their odds at home.
Greenway's remarks will almost surely draw a fine, and he's likely to upset some easily-offended fans.
He probably also upset the makers of the Metrodome's beer selections, Newcastle Brown Ale and Heineken, with those "drink liquor, not beer" remarks. Liquor is not served at the Metrodome.
