Obviously, the last few days can't have been particularly fun for Vince Young. He apparently quit on his team, got injured, had teammate Keith Bulluck throw him under the bus, and he's been drilled by pretty much every news source and blog - including us - in the country.
But as bad as all that was, I didn't expect it to cause something like this to happen.
Young apparently left his home abruptly Monday night and sped off without his cell phone. A person at Young’s home contacted head coach Jeff Fisher, who then contacted police. It took several hours locate Young.
One of the reasons why everyone was concerned was because of this.
Young had a handgun in the glove compartment of his vehicle, but it was not loaded and Tennessee Metro Police spokesman Aaron said officers had no concerns about Young trying to harm himself.
“The fact the gun was in the glove compartment and was unloaded did not present an issue for the officers,’’ Aaron said. “There was no ammunition in the car. The gun was unloaded. The slide was back in a safe position, and it was in the glove box.’’

Look, I know the gun was "back in a safe position" when the police showed up, but Young was MIA for several hours. And a mentally fragile guy driving around with a handgun in his car, loaded or not, is a dangerous combination.
After the police were able to get in contact with Young, he was required not only to meet with them, but also with Fisher. After the meeting - which happened at around midnight - Young was allowed to return home.
Fisher described it all as a "misunderstanding," but then again, that's exactly what Fisher said after Sunday's game when Young apparently quit on the team.
I think there's little question that at this point in time, Vince needs to take a bit of timeout, which his knee injury will apparently allow him to do. The most important thing is for him to get his head straightened out.
The only question is, will he still have a job when he gets back? That seems less and less likely with each passing day.
