Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has rejected a shock move to Barcelona by pledging his long-term allegiance to the English Premier League champions. The Belgian international, Vincent Kompany has caused a lot of interest in the football marker this season.
The 26-year-old centre back, Vincent Kompany is considered to be one of the best defenders in the world. Vincent Kompany posted exceptional form for Manchester City this season, which saw them win their first English Premier League title in 44 years.
In Spain, Barcelona’s new manager Tito Vilanova is trying to rebuild the Catalan club. Barcelona were without any major trophies this season. Their archrivals Real Madrid dominated Spain and Europe this season.
Tito Vilanova, who has replaced Pep Guardiola, has made fixing Barcelona’s defensive problems his top priority. Barcelona’s present squad can boast about only one centre back (Gerard Pique) and one right back (Dani Alves).
The aging Eric Abidal, who saw his last season with Barcelona, used to play for Barcelona as left back last season. Tito Vilanova has already replaced him with Jordi Alba. Tito Vilanova also wants a replacement for the 34-year-old Carles Puyol, who by now is a club legend. AC Milan’s refusal to give up Thiago Silva means Tito Vilanova will have to ponder over his centre back options.
So far, Vincent Kompany is the only centre back that can be considered a Barcelona man. Tito Vilanova has admitted his game play would go well at Nou Camp. In spite of all the intense interest from Barcelona, Vincent Kompany has no intentions of leaving Manchester City although Barcelona is offering him more than £160,000 a week.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has noticed the interest Vincent Kompany is causing in the football market. Vincent Kompany, who came to the Eastlands for a price of £6 million in 2008 from Hamburg, believes he can get a better contract with Manchester City. Vincent Kompany also believes that Manchester City has a greater chance of acquiring silverware in the future.
“I’m happy in Manchester. People talk about me moving, but what interests me is Manchester City,” Vincent Kompany said. “We can’t stop with the title, we want to win the Champions League.
“Is it possible in three to four years? Maybe not, but when I see what’s been achieved at the club in the last few years, nothing is impossible.”
AC Milan, Juventus and Bayern Munich have also shown interest in signing Vincent Kompany. With interest in signing Vincent Kompany on the rise Manchester City will surely move quickly to secure a long-term contract with their skipper Vincent Kompany.
