Longtime Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster will interview for the vacant Connecticut head coaching position, according to a recent tweet from Pete Roussel. Blog Photo - Virginia Tech football: Hokies DC Bud Foster to interview at UConn

Foster is a member of Frank Beamer's first Hokie staff, leading the Hokies' always-stout defense since 1995, and serving as the team's linebackers and special teams coach from 1987-94.

It's definitely an intriguing headline, one being the soon-coming retirement of the 67-year-old Beamer—another would be the jumping ship due to the program's progressive decline.

Foster's units have ranked among the top defenses in the country year in and out. Since 1999, Virginia Tech has ranked within the top three teams in total defense in its conference (Big East and ACC). It has finished with the No. 1 overall defense in the country twice (2005-06), and was No. 3 during the Hokies' national championship run in '09.

Despite spending nearly half his life as a member of the Virginia Tech coaching staff, at 54 years of age, Foster is probably looking to start the next chapter of his career as a head coach.

Connecticut currently ranks No. 9 in the NCAA with 309.9 yards per game allowed, which is an incredible stat-line compared to its 1-9 (1-5 AAC) record all while giving up 33.6 points on average (No. 101).
