Seth Greenberg and the Virginia Tech Hokies are one of the media darlings in this year's installment of Who Got the Shaft From the Selection Committee. Seth has been all over the media outlets crying and moaning about the fact that his 19-13 squad was left out of the Field of 65. In his pre-selection show campaigning, he decided to get his licks in on the Big Ten as a basis for VaTech's inclusion in the field. Seth is quoted as saying, "“The No. 1 R.P.I. conference, we whoop up on the Big Ten every single year in the A.C.C.-Big Ten Challenge and they’re talking about maybe a fifth team in the league? That’s absolutely absurd. It’s ludicrous."
Seth, this may be true. The Big Ten certainly was down this season, but you aren't exactly helping your case here, genius. You see, while the ACC "whooped up" on the Big Ten this season, your sorry team LOST in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Who did you lose to? Wisconsin? Michigan State??? INDIANA????? No, the Hokies lost to Penn State 66-61. You know, Penn State...the 7th place team in that ridiculous league. As a matter of fact, that loss to Penn State may have been the loss to put you on the outside looking in. Well, maybe not. It was likely the loss to Richmond or Old Dominion that put the nail in the coffin that held your Tournament dreams.
Tell you what Seth...next time you choose to disparage another conference to make your case, make sure you beat a team from that conference first. So leave the Atlantic 10 and the Colonial Athletic out of it!
