As you've surely learned by now, the tragic news last night that WWE wrestler Chris Benoit was found dead with his found and son. Details this morning are saying what many assumed - Benoit killed his wife and son, then himself. The most disturbing news is that authories are saying this didn't happen all at once.I'm not a fan of the WWE, not at all. One of the many reasons I've chose not to support the entertainment is that it's long promoted (indirectly) the use of anabolic steroids. There's speculation that this deranged turn in Benoit's life was the result of some roid rage.Investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday.
"I'm comfortable with our belief that this is a murder-suicide," Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said Tuesday.
The bodies were found in three rooms. Autopsies were planned for Tuesday.
"The details, when they come out," said Ballard, "are going to prove a little bizarre."
Benoit's employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, said on its Website Tuesday that Benoit had sent "several curious text messages" to friends, but police on Tuesday said they had identified only one.
Fayette Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope on Tuesday confirmed a text message had been sent from Benoit's cellphone at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, but he declined to disclose the message's content or recipient.
Until more information comes out it would be unwise to speculate further. A tragic event under any circumstances. Let's hope Vince McMahon doesn't joke about death in the near future.
NEW Update: This one is even more bizarre. The rumor/report is that WWE Star Chris Benoit gets a call from his wife and he has to leave a scheduled PPV appearance for an emergency. He comes home to find his son dead by the hands of his wife. In a fit of rage he kills his wife, and then later himself. Oh, and you think WWE's website could take down the spattered blood background?

Its sad to hear about wrestlers/ex-wrestlers die before 40 or 50. Bam Bam, Rick Rude, Big Bossman, Brian Pillman, Eddie Guerrero, and the Von Erichs. but murder-sucide.....that is way shocking. Probably be ranked with the Von Erich deaths, Owen Hart's stunt, and Bruiser Brody murder as the wrestling's biggest tragedy.

It looks to me like WWE is doing all they can to avoid being put in the spotlight about the use of steroids. I can think of three wrestlers who died from heart conditions that were blamed on steroids.
They can try but it's too late. I was watching CNN the other day and they were saying that like some ten wrestlers in the last 10 years have all died as a result or an affect of the use of Steroids. The sad part was none of these wrestlers were over the age of 45. They are in the spotlight whether they like it or not. But hey Vinve has been here before. Bacl in the late 80's he came under fire for a steriod issue and he somehow scated away pretty clean. We'll see how he does this time.

There's adifference between calling something a contributing factor and calling something the cause of something. Those are varying degrees. The weather could contribute to me having a bad day but that would not be the reason i jumped out of my car and shot a motorist because. I would agree that steroids definitely have a lasting effect on people, i just don't think people are being very cerebral about this situation and just jumping on the roid rage bandwagon. Sorry folks it's just not that simple, murder rarely is that simple.
I agree it was a contributing factor and a big one at that. It wasn't the reason he went ape poo on his family but if you are a loose cannon already and something sets you off while on roids you go completely unhinged. He was giving his kid HGH because he was "small". He was 7 years old let the kid sprout but in his mind his son needed to get up to par to probably follow in his footsteps. But as it has been said everyone has their own speculations about this whole thing.
The man was a great wrestler but only those real close to him know the true him and even they probably didn't know everything they needed to possibly help him. He obviously was hurting inside for a long time and something happened on Friday to put him over the top.
The main thing I am saying is roids change "YOU" as a person. I have been around a few people that have been on roids. Me myself over the last six months have been put on steroids three different times for a back problem and I can tell you from experience that your rational thoughts go out the window when you get mad and I am on a low dosage of it. So imagine if you are taking it all the time.

Roid rage is/can be a long term effect. Causing rage, depression and even paranoia. Which any of these three things or all of them could be contributing factors in this horrible situation. No matter the cause it was tragic.

Alot of people are putting their own spin on the details to fit whatever need there is. The only thing that's true to this point is that he killed his wife and son. That's it, we can speculate all day whether it was roid rage, whether we think he sat around deciding tp do this, (which i personal belief is that he killed his wife in the spur of the moment, killed his son later after sitting trying to contemplate what he had just done. The decision to kill his son in my opinion was probably done after the thought of killing himself) in either case it will be weeks before we here about the level of steroids in his system. It's strange because of all the other sports where steroids have been prevalent, not one incident ( to my limited knowledge) of an athlete in their prime going nuts and killing anyone. That's one reason I find roid rage not to be the reason. I am more pratical. It can't be that simple. He didn't just come home take some roids and start going postal on his family. We need to not be quite that shallow or simple minded. Tragic in any case and the worst case scenario of spousal abuse.

Very depressing, I always liked Benoit and thought he was a stand up guy, but may he burn in hell for what he did to his wife and his son. That steroid excuse is bull**** by the way, many people have taken steroids, but they dont go on a family massacre rage.

I grew up watching wrestling and Benoit wrestle and I can't believe he was that messed up I mean not only did he kill his family but he thought about it. It's not like it was a random act, You have to be pretty messed up to not only kill your family but sit for hours thinking about killing your family.

I can't believe the man did something that twisted...
6/26/07 | kappafla211
Either way my opinion of him is the same.
Yeah he was messed up in the head. Yeah I saw that report to and thought man he was f'ed up to leave them there that long besides doing what he did. Still is messed up but now sounds more of a heat of the moment instead of premeditated but his 7 year old son will never be understood.

Benoit's wife, Nancy, was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said.
The son, Daniel, was likely killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, Ballard said.
Benoit apparently killed himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.
There is your latest from the AP.
What a twisted low life.
That was the initial report the new report is what I put above yours. It was posted just before 4pm ET on USAtoday.com.

They have now said that he killed his wife and son on friday night and then himself late saturday night or early sunday morning. This is a very sad thing to read and unfortunately reading more about the family you learn there was a past of problems. For this to happen to anyone's family is just tragic period.

I'm just so shocked by all of this I mean the more you hear the more you start to wonder my heart goes out to Benoits family and friends. But I personally liked the way Vince McMahon handle it turning raw into a memorial in Benoits memory thats all he could have done on such short notice.

Chris Benoit's wife killed their son Daniel, called Chris and told him to rush home because of an emergency which is why he missed last Sunday's Vengeance PPV. Upon arriving home Benoit killed his wife in a rage for the death of his son and then killed himself Monday morning. His wife's body was found in the master bedroom, strangled with the cord from an alarm clock. The son's body was found in his room appearantly suffocated with a garbage bag. Chris then wrote a suicide note explaining what had happened, apologized to his family, his other children (from a seperate relationship), and his fans. He the fashioned a slip-knot noose from from rope taken from the garage and hung himself from the ballaster in the foyer of his suburban Atlanta home.

This kind of had to blow the storyline they had running for Vince. Tragic for sure, but the more that comes out about this the stranger it gets.
