As most fans know, it is never, EVER, a good idea to boldly proclaim that you've won something before it happens, or even hint at it, especially when it involves the Cubs. But it's not like that stops people.
Walter E. Smithe is a Chicago furniture store that has a habit of producing very timely local ads. So they decided, you know what, this is the Cubs' year, so let's capitalize on it. They produced an ad that celebrates the Cubs' march to the World Series and openly suggests that they'll win it. The ad was all set to air this week....except that the Cubs failed yet again.
Naturally, this commercial will never be shown now.
Here's the commercial about "The Summer That Will Last Forever," the summer that obviously got cut a tad short - just like it always does.
The end of the commercial features Cubs greats Ernie Banks and Billy Williams. Needless to say, Williams looks at Banks like "Man, we're so screwed."
