Washington State Is Pretty Good; Louisiana Tech Not So Much
Your almost daily recap of college hoops ...

#6 Washington State 51, #19 Gonzaga 47
I don't put too much stock into early November/December games as far as translating into March wins, but the Cougars showed a lot by winning in front of a rowdy Kennel Club. Kyle Weaver is easily the most underrated player in the country which has a lot to do with the fact he'll never rack up big number in Tony Bennett's offense. I've added Robbie Cowgill to my favorite players list. Doesn't look like a basketball player at all, seems too skinny to play for this physical team, but is very much the opposite and incredibly efficient (5-for-7 shooting). Can't wait for the first UCLA-Washington State game. Kevin Love and Aron Baynes are going to get all kinds of bloody.

Texas Tech 86, Louisiana Tech 31
This is isn't even close to being the best team Bobby Knight has put on the court so this is all you need to know about La Tech -- "Texas Tech (6-3) outscored the Bulldogs 46-3 from midway through the first half to midway through the second half, going up by as many as 45 during the run." Ouch.

#4 Georgetown 70, Alabama 60
Still feeling good about my national title pick. Other teams look flashy, but the Hoyas patience and execution are too tough to stop. Just like last year they'll look a little shaky and off early, but gel when necessary.

Your thoughts? What game are you looking forward to this weekend?

On defense alone, Washington State could win the Pac-10 title.  Tony Bennett has that team humming.

BTW, I didn't mean to offend Robbie Cowgill by calling him skiny. He's bigger than I am. Just wanted to clarify.

You know Wash State was losing all game against Baylor, before they barely pulled out the victory earlier in the year, right?  I'm just sayin'. . .

I agree that they will be a good team but they haven't done a whole lot to impress me so far.

I have to disagree with you on Georgetown as well;  that team just isn't right without Jeff Green opening up the rest of the offense.  Maybe their young guys will improve enough, but I don't think they will be nearly as good as last season.

We could go through and find something wrong with a lot of the Top 10 teams that's doesn't always seem to fit ... (i.e. Michigan State lost to GVSU in exhibition, then led against #1 UCLA for 39 minutes)

I was just impressed, as Todd said, with their defense for 40 minutes on the road against a decent offensive team. Washington State is still probably an elite 8 team at best.
Georgetown certainly hasn't play great thus far, but that's been the MO under of III.

There is certainly some truth to what you're saying, but let's just say for the sake of argument that both Gonzaga (who also really doesn't impress me, generally) and Baylor are outliers.  That leaves them with giving up 70+ points to Boise State and less than 11 point wins at home against Air Force and Montana.  I'm just saying that Wash State hasn't really done too much to garner any praise, outside of a general like of their coach and how they play.

Sure, you can pick at something with top-10 teams, but not to the same extent you can do it with Wash State, IMO.

I know the scoreboard showed a 10-point win, but Georgetown didn't beat Alabama that bad last night.  It was a constant back-and-forth game between the two for the entire game.  The Hoyas pulled away in the last minute and a half by hitting free throws.

I know most games end that way, but I don't think Georgetown ever had a lead of more than 3 points before the 2-minute mark.  Bama had the lead in the game just as much as they did.

I just wanted to come in here and stick up for my team.  They did a lot better than I thought they would last night.  A little thanks to some cold shooting by the Hoyas early, but that happens too.

Agree that wasn't a great game at all last night. But that actually gives me more confidence in G'Town. They played horribly but forced Alabama to play sloppy (1st time I've seen them so that could be the norm) and impatient. I think they'll do that to even the best teams.

Yep.  If I remember correctly, that's how they won a lot of games last year.  I didn't see many of their games though.  I could be wrong.

As many times as I have seen Hibbert play, he impressed me more last night.  Probably because that's the first time I've seen him play against Alabama, and that's the first time this year that anyone has controlled Richard Hendrix as much as they did.  But hey, that's what the good teams do.  They make you play their style of game, even if it's a bad one.
