Wayne Rooney is expected to return for action in Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Galatasaray on Tuesday. The 27-year-old striker was declared unfit before England travelled to play against Sweden in Stockholm.
The Three Lions missed the services of their star forward Wayne Rooney on their trip to Sweden. Steven Caulker and Daniel Sturridge scored England, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his four jaw-dropping goals marked the day as an English massacre.
Manchester United also missed the services of their star forward. Wayne Rooney, who has been playing more of a midfield role in Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad this season, saw helplessly from the bench as Norwich City grabbed a shocking 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Carrow Road.
Sir Alex Ferguson remained steadfast to his promise by granting Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck a role in the starting lineup. Both strikers have been in phenomenal form for Manchester United as of late.
Expecting the worse, Sir Alex Ferguson called in for his top goal-scorer Robin van Persie, who hadn’t fully healed from his injuries yet. In spite of calling in Robin van Persie there was clearly a huge void in the midfield which is usually filled in by Wayne Rooney.
The defeat caused Manchester United to give up their top-spot on the Premier League table. Manchester United’s archrivals Manchester City replaced them with a point’s difference on top of the Premier League table.
Sir Alex Ferguson has declared that Manchester Untied is not a one-man club, yet the Scotsman understands the importance of Wayne Rooney in his side.
Wayne Rooney came off in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa with an ankle injury. In an interview to Manchester United’s official website Sir Alex Ferguson informed about Wayne Rooney’s recovery.
“He's had tonsillitis,” Sir Alex Ferguson said. “We hope he'll be in on Sunday - we'll see what he's like then. If he does [come in] hopefully we can get him ready for Tuesday.”
Manchester United defender Phil Jones is expected to return to action against Galatasaray. Phil Jones hasn’t been able to make a single appearance for Manchester United this season due to injuries. The young Englishman has been recovering from back injury and knee surgery.
Sir Alex Ferguson and Co. have already qualified for the Last 16 stage of Champions League, so the Scotsman could experiment with several new players in Manchester United’s squad against Galatasaray.
