Ways Stoudemire can still help the New York Knicks
All of this success has been without a drop of contribution form the New York Knicks’ six-time All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire, who has been out so far this season with a knee injury. But with Amar’e Stoudemire now putting his return to New Year’s Day, there’s naturally been a lot of concern over the repercussions of his return to the chemistry of the New York Knicks lineup.
While there are justified reasons for this arising concern of potentially changing up the lineup, the 30-year-old New York Knicks power forward/center Amar’e Stoudemire is hardly an antique fighter jet that should rot in dust in the hanger.
Here are the elements that Amar’e Stoudemire still adds to game for the current No.2 seed out of Eastern Conference, New York Knicks:
1. Additional scoring option
Scoring hasn’t been a huge issue for the New York Knicks but as the season advances the team will have to add some additional offensive power. The New York Knicks have been rolling to success on their 3-pointer game, but they can’t ride on it into a championship.
Bringing Amar’e Stoudemire back into the game will relieve some of the offensive pressure on Carmelo Anthony, while adding an inside scoring option to stretch the floor.
Tyson Chandler’s been the only New York Knicks bigman who’s shown some talent for scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game. This makes a frontcourt option like Amar’e Sotundemire (career- average of 21.6 points per game) seem like a pretty good deal.
While Amar’e Stoudemire may not have a leading role in all this makeup, it will definitely help his team in their playoffs run.
A solid bench can immediately turn the course of course of any game. While the New York Knicks bench has posted solid numbers behind guard J.R. Smith, leading at 15.3 pints per game, its mostly the numbers haven’t played across the entire bench.
Amar’e Stoudemire has claimed he’s willing to come off the bench, and given his experience and numbers, that will add depth to the New York Knicks bench. Even if many take issues with a player on a maximum contract coming off the bench, that’s exactly what will keep the New York Knicks’ chemistry going. Last season Amar’e Stoudemire failed to fall to expectations, but even with those numbers he far excells an average New York Knicks bench player.
And given Amar’e Sotudemire makes his way back to the lineup, it only concludes a potential starter coming off the bench making the New York Knicks potentially the deepest teams in the league.
One of the few things the New York Knicks have lacked since the start of the season is size.
The New York Knicks have either featured Carmelo Anthony or Kurt Thomas starting at power forward. While Carmelo Anthony has remained dominant at his spot, the New York Knicks could always use help in the frontcourt. Additionally, the New York Knicks can’t expect solid minutes from their other ageing bigmen. Even a partially restored Amar’e Stoudemire will have an impact on both sides of the court.
However, defense has always been Amar’e Stoudemire’s pitfall. Although any level of defensive on Amar’e Stoudemire’s part could be a big boost for the New York Knicks.
