Weaver, Wainwright throw Cards to a 3-2 lead
10/18/06
Big win for the Cardinals last night, riding another impressive performance from Jeff Weaver. Are Cards fans as bewildered as I am to see him this way? It's Jeff Weaver right? The other big story is Albert Pujols' bat joining in the fun ... a few days after his mouth. Instead of reading my thoughts, I'll direct you to some team bloggers.Viva El Birdos tips his cap to La Russa in his handling of the bullpen. I did find it peculiar that Wainwright was brought in to face Jose Valentin, when a left hander was already on the mound. Decisions always look smart when they work. Most everyone is tipping their cap to Weaver ... but still stunned So Taguchi hit that homerun last week.
Mets fans are clearly disappointed in the strike zone, but for each shift in the zone there was equal failure to deliver when the bat hit the ball.
ESPN has already jumped the gun and pointing towards what a grand upset the Cardinals could pull off tonight. Am I the only the one that doesn't understand and agree with this? Sure you can look at this in black and white and simply compare regular season records, but that would be short-sighted. For every injury the Cardinals have encounter during the regular season, the Mets are having their won postseason troubles. I just don't get it ... but then again I picked the Cards in 7.
So it's an elimination game tonight in New York and to quote Billy Wagner - "If we lose it, we watch the Cards celebrate in front of our fans. Nobody in this clubhouse wants to look at that spectacle."
