Cure for Thanksgiving Hangover: Another day of football! [NFL Sunday Live Thread]

Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadWelcome to the Post-Thanksgiving FanIQ NFL Pre-Game Show and Live Thread! If you're anything like me, this week has messed with your mind, having a full day of football already. And our special guest today made an appearance in our live thread for Thursday as well.

This week we welcome Beaneaters; we'll call him Beans. If you spend much time here at all, you know him - Beans has been here nearly as long as I have and is probably more well known. He's a cool cat.

Thanks for joining us today, Beans - give us your thoughts on today's games!

Early Games:

Vikings @ Bears
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadThe Bears will still be steaming from their last game. I say Chicago beats Minnesota then eats the Vikings mascot.

Jess: I think this is the week we get an idea of how much trouble the Bears are actually in. For my team's sake next week, I hope this is just the continuance of an implosion. I'm going to call a tough one and say Vikings win here. If they don't, I'm scared.

Raiders @ Bengals
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadHere is another game that should have busy quarterbacks. Kat likes the Raiders, she is cool, so Palmer leads Oakland to a win for Kathy. Woohoo!

Jess: I would love for the Raiders to be able to win this one for Kat, but I don't know that that's going to happen, especially on the road. Bengals, but not by much.

Steelers @ Browns
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadI can’t figure out the Steelers this year, but I’m thinking the Browns won’t either. Steelers get a very needed win here.

Jess: Oh man, is this going to be an ugly game or what? Ben is still out, Leftwich is out...are they pulling Batch out of the home for this game? I foresee a lot of yards on the ground for the Steelers. The Browns gave the Boys about all they could handle last week, so anything could happen. Steelers win, just because I don't want them to.

Bills @ Colts
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadA coach fighting cancer can make a team run through brick buildings, I am so picking the Colts.

Jess: Isn't that just the way it goes sometimes? And this is another one where I'm hoping for a team to start a downward spiral because I'm selfish for the future. The Bills are frustrating, because they have shown flashes of being able to put something together. They don't have a problem scoring, but their defense seems to be lacking. They might be pulling it together, but I think the Colts win by a field goal.

Broncos @ Chiefs
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadThe Nice Manning will make me wish he was on one of my FFL teams. I am thinking the Chiefs will be on a bus heading to the Golden Corral buffet place by the start of the third quarter.

Jess: Haha, unfortunately for the Chiefs and their awesome fan base, I'm going to have to agree with you. However, the Chiefs may just score first again, with the Broncos penchant for falling behind early so they can pull off a flashy comeback win.

Seahawks @ Dolphins
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadSeattle is looking mighty fine and it is a great time to be the 12th man. Lynch might get 200 yards rushing in this game. Fins on the losing end here.

Jess: It's always a great time to be the 12th Man but this year has been beyond expectations, which is always exciting. I so hope you're right about the win here. Seattle needs to figure out how to win on the road though. Regardless of whether or not they're a better team than their competition, they've found a way to shoot themselves in the foot so far outside of the Clink. They were even close to losing in Carolina. They frighten and frustrate me. As per usual, I refuse to pick this game, but I will say that I hope you're correct. It makes me nervous when Seattle is favored by the media too...but that might be something I'll have to get used to if the team keeps improving.

Falcons @ Bucs
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadHa! Falcons have been nice enough to let the rest of the league catch up, now it is time to switch gears for their Super Bowl victory. OMG.

Jess: I think this will be another nail-biter. I love those...and I also think the Falcons will find a way to pull of a win, even if it looks scary at some point.

Titans @ Jags
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadTitans vs Jaguars, really? Does it matter? I am taking Jacksonville, mostly ‘cause somebody just has to win this.

Jess: I don't even know how to pick this game. Usually when that happens, I ask my 11yo, but she can't decide between her new 2nd favorite team and Matt Hasselbeck (though I explained he's just a backup). I'm going to say Titans here simply because they're afraid to get pink slips.

Late Games:

Ravens @ Chargers
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadAnything can happen here, if Phillip Rivers get hot, the Chargers win. Honestly, I am leaning towards a Ravens victory.

Jess: You're right - this game is crazy. Two quarterbacks capable of greatness but also capable of ridiculousness in the worst way. Neither team is impressive on a consistent basis on either side of the ball. I like the Ravens too though.

Niners @ Saints
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadI loathe any sports team outta SF, and I think Marcus and Sid are cooler than ice cream. So the Saints win by 50.

Jess: Ohhh I love your style! You being right here would make me ecstatic. I would love to see a Seahawks win and a Niners loss today. Oh that would make my week. I'm afraid though, that the Niners might just be too good. With all this weird "controversy" surrounding Kaepernick and Smith now that Smith's been medically cleared, nobody has any idea what's going on with that team. It's probably too much to hope for, but maybe that'll come back to bite Harbaugh. Crossing fingers.

Rams @ Cardinals
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadI think the Rams defense wins it here. Besides, they are Teach’s team, so heck, they could win two or three times here.

Jess: This should be an interesting game. We might just get another overtime. I'm going with the Rams here too, but it's iffy.

Primetime:

Packers @ Giants
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadRodgers and Mouthbreather, I’m going with Green Bay.

Jess: It's still November, so even if the Giants were playing Cleveland or Jacksonville, or Carolina, I wouldn't pick them today. The Packers will walk all over them - I think this will be yet another ugly primetime blowout. Have you noticed that the best games this year have been regular-time games when the whole nation isn't watching?

MNF Bonus Pick:

Panthers @ Eagles
Blog Photo - Week 12 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadI believe Cam and the Panthers are due and will beat the battered and bruised Eagles.

Jess: This Eagles team just has no heart at all. Cam and the Panthers are struggling, but I think they have this one in the bag.

Thanks again, Beans, and good luck to your Falcons today!

Everyone else, grab some leftovers, sit, relax, and Q it up here for yet a second full day of Week 12 NFL Football!

sting - how apt a description! My son just called from camp. He said there were 17 guys sitting in the cafeteria watching the Grey Cup, all cheering for Calgary. When he said that his mom would be disappointed, they told him to take a quick break to call me. God I love my son. I am so blessed!!

This game has a pretty simple calculus. The Packers have too many injuries on defense, and have too many holes on the offensive line against a team like the Giants. This is the result.

11/26/12   |   JenX63   |   32816 respect

GB needs to re group at the half, and come back and do their job.

Sure he is, he's the QB. No team is going to win without a good one, but sub in a capable backup, and the  Steelers may have won those games. I mean, ffs Alex Smith is playing well this year, yet his backup started today.... and won! Ben seems extra important right now because the other options are just that awful.

From experience with my own beloved team, it is always a good idea to get a new/younger QB after about 4 years due to the unforeseen and unfortunate accidents that happen while playing football. And I still doubt it would've made much difference. It's all one big replacement level goop. Also, a different quarterback doesn't stop five fumbles.

11/26/12   |   RaiderSteeler15   |   21445 respect

How can the San Diego Chargers blow a 4th and 29 yard defensive play??  All they had to do was to stop the Ravens on 4th and 29 and the game was over being as though the Bolts were up 13-10 on the Ravens...  If that isn't awful defensive execution, I don't know what it is...

I don't think a 5th rounder on Dennis Dixon really counts.

Also, see my theory from the Chicago Whining about Jason Campbell in Filter Error from last week: The league can't find 32 good starters. Why does anyone think the backups would do anything? (The only possible exception is a recent high pick like Kaepernick)

Yeah, seeing that on twitter.  UGH.

Stampeders are not doing well in the Grey Cup.  17-3 in the second quarter.  Nobody remembers who they played in the game that wins it all, only the team that wins it.

Sorry, I need to rant for a minute.  The CFL Grey Cup Game is about to start.  It's the 100th year.  So, to honor that 100 years, they picked a 100 year old performer to sing the anthem.

Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration, but Burton Cummings was famous when I was a child.  Now he is just a former great performer.  The anthem was an embarrassment.  If they wanted tradition, they could have at least picked Bryan Adams who remains contemporary and can at least hold a tune.

I agree 100%  I believe some teams get caught up in not drafting a QB just because they have a "Franchise QB" that has carried that team for over 5 years...  The Steelers' running game has been suspect as well...

Charlie Batch is clearly not the solution for the Steelers' offense, 8 turnovers today against Cleveland...
