Finally. Terrell Owens Is No Longer A Dud! In Fact, He's A Stud This Week
This was a huge week for quarterbacks, as 9 of them had over 20 fantasy points in standard ESPN leagues. However, there were also plenty of premier fantasy running backs that were pathetic, and if you had them on your team, you probably dropped more F-bombs than Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa.
Alright, let’s take a look at the week 12 Studs and Duds. Again, the points are from ESPN’s standard league settings.
QB: Matt Cassel(33 PTS). 2 straight weeks of 400+ yards passing. 815 yards passing and 6 TD, and 10 carries for 76 yards and a TD in those games. Where did this come from? While the debate as to whether or not Cassel is very good or is just succeeding because of the system is something for another day, there’s no doubt he’s an elite fantasy QB now.
QB: Trent Edwards(33 PTS). This was about as unexpected as the Dustin Diamond sex tape. After not recording double-digit fantasy points since week 7, and never having more than 14 fantasy points in 2008, Edwards did his best Matt Cassel impression(it’ll catch on) with 33 fantasy points at Kansas City. A very efficient 24 completions in 32 attempts for 273 yards and 2 TD. He also added in 6 carries for 38 yards and 2 TD.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Chad Pennington(29 PTS), Drew Brees(28 PTS), Tony Romo(23 PTS), Aaron Rodgers(22 PTS), Jake Delhomme(22 PTS), Eli Manning(21 PTS), Ben Roethlisberger(20 PTS).
RB: Michael Turner(35 PTS). Carolina held Turner to just 56 yards on 18 carries in week 4. What a turnaround: 116 yards on the ground to go with 4 TD!
RB: Pierre Thomas(23 PTS). Matt Forte had more points, but we knew he would have a huge day against the Rams. It’s doubtful many people played Pierre Thomas, as Reggie Bush was a game-time decision and Thomas would’ve appeared to be the #3 RB for the Saints. Last week he had 16 carries for 88 yards against the Chiefs with 1 TD, and followed that up with 15 carries for 87 yards and 2 TD.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Matt Forte(24 PTS), DeAngelo Williams(19 PTS), Leon Washington(18 PTS), Warrick Dunn(18 PTS).
WR: Randy Moss(30 PTS). While Cassel’s getting all the love for this past Sunday, Moss was certainly a big reason for the QB’s success. 8 catches for 125 yards and 3 TD. His previous high in fantasy points in 2008 was 18.
WR: Terrell Owens(27 PTS). A healthy Tony Romo does wonders for T.O.’s fantasy success. Going into Sunday, T.O. had receiving yards in the 30’s(36, 31, 33, 36, 38) in his last 5 games. So much for that. Owens put up a ridiculous 213 yards over 7 receptions and added a TD Sunday against the 49ers.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Harry Douglas(21 PTS), Lance Moore(21 PTS), Isaac Bruce(18 PTS).
TE: Tony Gonzalez(17 PTS). In week 10, Gonzalez had 10 catches for 113 yards and 2 TD. In week 12, 10 catches for 113 yards, and 1 TD.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Heath Miller(10 PTS), Kevin Boss(10 PTS).
K: Nick Folk(19 PTS). The Cowboys kicker was 4 for 4, hitting all of the field goals from 40+ yards out.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Rian Lindell(18 PTS), Ryan Longwell(14 PTS), John Carney(13 PTS), Adam Vinatieri(13 PTS).
D/ST: Baltimore Ravens(26 PTS). 4 interceptions, got Donovan McNabb benched, a TD, a punt block for a safety, only 7 points allowed… just pure domination.
Didn’t Forget Ya: Minnesota Vikings(24 PTS), Buccaneers(22 PTS), Bears(20 PTS), Texans(17 PTS).
QB: Jay Cutler(6 PTS). After he opened the season versus the Raiders with 300 yards passing and 2 TD, everybody(including me) expected a huge week out of him. Not a single TD pass, 1 INT, and 1 fumble.
QB: Donovan McNabb(-4 PTS). It wasn’t a good decision to play him against the Ravens, but if you did, you at least figured he wouldn’t get benched at half. Only 59 yards passing, 2 INT, and a fumble in this complete disaster of a week.
You Stunk Too: Brady Quinn(-1 PTS), Gus Frerotte(2 PTS)
RB: Frank Gore(2 PTS). 14 carries for 26 yards against the Cowboys? What the hell?
RB: Ronnie Brown(4 PTS). In week 4 against the Patriots when the Dolphins got “Wildcat” fever going, Brown had a whopping 39 fantasy points, highlighted by 4 TD. Facing the Patriots again and at home this time led most to believe he’d have another good fantasy week. 10 carries for 37 yards is not that.
You Stunk Too: LenDale White(0 PTS), Jonathan Stewart(1 PT), Brian Westbrook(3 PTS), Cedric Benson(3 PTS), Chris Johnson(3 PTS), Willie Parker(3 PTS), Jamal Lewis(4 PTS).
WR: Reggie Wayne(3 PTS). Only 2 receptions for 34 yards for the Colts WR. This is the 5th time in 2008 that he’s had fantasy points in single digits.
WR: T.J. Houshmandzadeh(2 PTS). 4 catches for 20 yards in his worst fantasy performance of the season. It shouldn’t get easier for him in week 13 either, as he’ll have to deal with the Ravens defense.
You Stunk Too: Eddie Royal(1 PT), Bernard Berrian(2 PTS), Hines Ward(3 PTS), Derrick Mason(4 PTS), Donald Driver(4 PTS), Marvin Harrison(4 PTS), Roddy White(5 PTS)
TE: Antonio Gates(1 PT). After being a dud performance in week 11 against a great Pittsburgh defense, I figured he’d get back on track at home against Indianapolis in week 12. Nope. 3 catches for 28 yards. In a game the Chargers had to have, it’s incredible Philip Rivers only targeted this Pro Bowl tight end 4 times.
You Stunk Too: Donald Lee(0 PTS), Greg Olsen(0 PTS), Jason Witten(1 PT), Kellen Winslow(1 PT),
Tony Scheffler(1 PT).
D/ST: Carolina Panthers(-4 PTS). In week 4, the Panthers allowed just 9 points to the Atlanta Falcons. This time around, 45 points. Yikes.
You Stunk Too: Denver Broncos(-4 PTS), Miami Dolphins(-4 PTS), Tennessee Titans(2 PTS).
K: Matt Prater(3 PTS). 1 for 3 on field goal attempts, and the Broncos were very disappointing on offense, giving Prater only 1 extra point opportunity.
You Stunk Too: David Akers(1 PT), Josh Scobee(2 PTS), Mason Crosby(3 PTS).
If I left somebody out, and that’s certainly possible in the Duds category as you could dig for quite awhile going through the people with 0’s, let me know. Feel free to leave any comments on here and I’ll usually respond.
