Week 14 Last Minute Fantasy Football News And Analysis; Who To Sit And Start
NFL

Get Marion Barber Out Of Your Fantasy Lineup, Start Brian Westbrook [Fantasy Sit/Starts]

12/7/08 in NFL   |   sharapovasthigh   |   respect

As many of you are in the fantasy playoffs, you cannot allow yourself to make a gaffe in your lineups.

Let's face it, plenty of people are out drinking heavily on a Saturday night(my loser self is just drinking by myself tonight, single tear), and will sleep in on a Sunday morning. Then they wake up, the 1:00 PM(ET) games have started, and cripes... they forgot to take Marion Barber out of their lineup! Do not let yourself be one of these people.

To avoid such a situation, let's make some adjustments right now before you go paint the town:

*Take Marion Barber out of your lineup. The Cowboys running back did not join the team flight to Pittsburgh, meaning he's officially out already. If you're desperate for a fantasy running back, pretty much if you were going to play a backup, pick up Tashard Choice if he's still available in your league. Don't expect too much out of him, but he'll get touches at least.

*Start Brian Westbrook. The week 14 superstud is expected to start tomorrow, after being listed as "Questionable". Don't kill me if he doesn't play, I'm just going by what the reports are. Still, if you're one of the people that isn't waking up naked on top of a cougar in the  morning, wondering what state you're in, do yourself a favor and make sure he's a go tomorrow.

*Play Clinton Portis... If you don't have a top-20 back you could play instead. It's hard to bench a guy that's been as good as any running back in the league this year, but he's banged up with a neck injury, and going against an outstanding Ravens defense. He's listed as "Questionable", but expected to play. Like Westbrook though, check his status again tomorrow.

*Sit Kevin Smith... If you have a starter at running back for just about any team outside of the Cowboys(Tashard Choice) this week. Most of the week Lions running back  Kevin Smith looked like a good play against the backup defensive tackles of the Minnesota Vikings. However, a stupid ruling allows Kevin and Pat Williams to play this Sunday. They are the main reasons for the Vikings having a top-2 run defense each of the last 3 years, as they make it nearly impossible to have much success running up the middle against the Vikings.

*Start Ryan Grant against the Texans. Grant's status was in doubt at the beginning of the week after spraining his thumb, but he'll play and the Packers plan to give him the ball a lot. Brandon Jackson seemed like a solid sleeper pick earlier in the week after getting 11 carries for 80 yards in week 13 versus the Panthers, but it appears Grant is the Packer running back to go with in this one against the Texans' 23rd ranked run defense.

I'm sure they'd love to answer.  They have to have something to do when Football Season is over.  Aren't the LOTR flicks 4 hours long each?

You ask them their position? That's beautiful. Next time, ask them if they prefer Frodo or Gandalf. That's the sort of wit that will propel you straight to the top!

12/7/08   |   jjh8857   |   327 respect

On my show whenever a fan says 'we' I always ask them what position they play.  That usually stumps them pretty good.

Dorks play fantasy football?  I hate LOTR and also have never saw nor read a book of that sort.  I think you are confusing Fantasy Worlds.  As far as me being a dork...I don't think I have ever been called that in my life...But I am a dork who gets laid and always have so I guess I can handle it.   I man I gotta go...we I mean the Bills are driving...lol..jj..I am not a Bills fan

I will NEVER play Fantasy Sports.  NEVER EVER.  I work in sports radio so perhaps I get my fill that way.

That's funny. Because I enjoy fantasy sports, and I spend maybe 15 minutes a week on it, and I am absolutely cognizant of the fact that I am nothing like a real GM. Nor do I fill out multiple brackets, and I despise the morons who use the term "we" when referring to their favorite team, and I call them out whenever I see it.

The people who take it seriously are the people who put money on it. But 99% of them aren't delusional, and people who think they could be a real GM are all over the place, whether or not they play fantasy sports. In all reality, fantasy sports are no different from sports betting, except you're betting on a player, instead of a team.

Regardless, it's clear that you're pretty clueless, so perhaps when the next sports season comes around, you should look into joining a league, so you can get a better idea of what you're talking about.

I fail to see the correlation to Lord of the Rings. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen the movies or read the books. Perhaps you could clarify for me how Lord of the Rings is related to fantasy football.

I'd also like to know where anyone said that playing fantasy sports made them a GM.

You make some interesting comments, but it seems to me like they're coming out of left field, and have no factual basis whatsoever.

Take your time responding, because I know you're probably busy attending the winter meetings, being a REAL GM and everything. I wouldn't want to intrude on your incredibly busy schedule.

And sorry for confusing you with an Alabama fan earlier. I should have known better. Alabama fans are a bit less douchey, since their program actually has a future.

This is about players you're on the fence with. All of these guys have been hurt all week, or in Smith's case, he looked like a good play against backup defensive tackles for the Vikings. He's run fine this year, averaging 4.3 yards/carry, and would've been worth starting in most leagues, unless your league has 4 teams or something. Hell, the Vikings signed Jimmy freaking Kennedy to play DT with the Williamses expected to be out. Now those guys are back, and Smith's not a good start anymore.

Like I said, this is about decisions that aren't so obvious. I think most people are smart enough to start CJ against the Browns and LJ against the Broncos.

and as I posted if you are on the fence about Kevin Smith...hang it up...I was joking about Chris Johnson...hence the NEWSFLASH...if yu don't play him you must AP and LT or somethin.  ANyways...Play all AZ players...did you mention that???lol

Bama Fans & class huh?  Remind of your nickname for Phil Fulmer?  Remind of your treatment of Bill Curry?  How about flinging batteries & bottles at David Irons?  By the way why are you bitter today?

Lol, I've never met a more sensitive group of people in all my life.  You equate playing 'fantasy sports' with being online after returning from the SEC Title Game?  That's funny.

There are several great players that are terrible fantasy choices and the choices you make are almost always about timing and matchups. It makes the brain work a little harder and by NOT reading the warning label you can and WILL get a headache.

Ouch... yeah, my bad. All I noticed was "Birmingham, AL" and I just assumed. I didn't even take the second to look at the huge Auburn logo that was right underneath it. Stupid me.

How does playing fantasy football prevent you from these things you're implying? I didn't realize spending 30 minutes a week on something I play along with just about any sports fan I've met in my life is a life-killer. It's amazing I've been able to spend half the week out at the bar with my friends and meeting girls with this fantasy football in the way!

And you're suggesting that I meet a fake girl, have fake sex, have a fake relationship, and have some fake kids? I'll take a rain check on that one.
