Week 3 Preview- Buffalo Bills vs. The New York Jets
On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills head to Metlife Stadium to face the division rival New York Jets. Both teams are a respectable 1-1 with the Bill coming off a thrilling week 2 win over Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. The Jets on the other hand are looking to rally after a disappointing loss to the New England Patriots. The Jets had many chances to take control of the game, but just could not do it. This game certainly should be an exciting one.
Geno Smith vs EJ Manuel. On Sunday, these two rookie quarterbacks will be trying to get their respective team to 2-1 on the season. So far, the Bills 1st round draft pick has done a very nice job leading the offense. Manuel has completed 45/66 passes with 3 touchdowns and just one interception. Manuel has taken advantage of weapons CJ Spiller and Stevie Johnson so far this year, and expect that to continue this week as well.
Geno Smith has had some up and down moments so far this year for the Jets. Week 1 Geno showed his poise and toughness when he led the Jets down the field in a game winning effort. While linebacker Lavonte David certainly helped out with his late hit on a Smith scramble, Smith was able to hit Kellen Winslow the play before on a 25 yard pass and catch to even give them a chance to win. Last week, the Jets receivers had a bad case of the drops. While Geno did turn the ball over three times, his receivers did not help him out at all. Look for Smith to rely on his running game this week since the Bills give up the 3rd most rushing yards in the league so far.
So far this season the Jets defense has given up the second least amount of yards with 482, only trailing the Seattle Seahawks. Rex Ryan and his defense will have their hands full this week through trying to stop the Bills. In recent years, CJ Spiller has had his way vs the Jets defense rushing for 228 yards with 2 touchdowns in two games. Week 1 the Jets were able to shut down star running back Doug Martin holding him to just 65 yards, but Spiller adds a whole different dimension with his speed. Look for Rex Ryan and his D to concentrate on stopping Spiller and making the rookie Manuel beat them through the air.
I fully expect this to be a very competitive game with neither team completely out playing the other. Expect this game to have its fair share of punts, field goals, and ugly 3 and out possessions. This is a big early season game for both teams as both hopes to gain some momentum in the AFC East.
