Week 6 is here and we are almost at the halfway point of the season. Teams are starting to show who they really are as the National picture clears up...kind of.

This weekend we have two huge matchups in the SEC and Big 10. Ole Miss looks to regain some national respect against Alabama, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan all try to prove they have what it takes to overtake Ohio St. in the Big 10, and oh there is some game on Saturday night at LSU everyone seems to be talking about.

For the season, I am a putrid 15-15, so take these predictions for what they are worth and worst case, pick the opposite of what I pick.

Thursday 9:00pm ESPN - #21 Nebraska at #24 Missouri [56% of FanIQ is picking Nebraska]

The biggest matchup so far in the Big 12 this season takes place on a Thursday night in Columbia, MO. Nebraska and Missouri have quite the rivalry, but Missouri has had the upper hand recently, including a 52-17 beatdown last season in Nebraska. This years Nebraska team might remind some of Husker teams of the past. The Blackshirts are back and in a big way this season as Nebraska leads the nation in scoring defense by giving up on 7 points per game. Granted they have played Virginia Tech and three Sun Belt teams, but only allowing 7 points per game is a great feat. Missouri on the other hand hasn't missed a beat offensively despite losing Chase Daniel and Chase Coffman from last years squad. The Tigers are averaging 37 points per game and over 450 yards per game behind first year starter Blane Gabbert. The winner of this game will take an early lead in what should be a very competitive race in the Big 12 North. I think the offensive fire power and home field will prove to be the difference as Missouri takes a tight one. Tigers 24 Huskers 20

Saturday 3:30pm ABC - Wisconsin at #9 Ohio St. [80% of FanIQ is picking Ohio St.]

The first of two matchups between the top four teams in the Big 10 takes place in Columbus. Wisconsin is one of the few remaining unbeaten teams left in college football and a win here would garner respect across the nation. This will be a game that those who love the old school Big 10 trench battle games will enjoy. The Badgers are ranked 14th in the country in rushing, while the Buckeyes are No. 10 in running defense and somethings got to give. These are two very evenly matched teams except in one key area, Quarterback. Terrelle Pryor and his ability to extend plays and buy time for his receivers to get open will be the difference in this game. Buckeyes 21 Badgers 14

Saturday 8:05pm ABC - Michigan at #12 Iowa [52% of FanIQ is picking Michigan]

The second big matchup in the Big 10 is also the ABC Saturday Night Game since CBS has the SEC rights. Michigan dropped their first game of the season last week in OT against Michigan St. while Iowa struggled against another inferior opponent at home. Michigan has one of the more exciting offenses in the nation, mostly because they will move the ball and with their habit of close games, we are getting to see what Tate Forcier is made of. Forcier may not be the best QB yet, but the kid is special and has lead the Michigan offense to almost 400 yards per game and 34 points per game, and if you can score 34 points in a Big 10 game, your chances are very good that you'll win. Iowa on the other hand is a team built on defense. The Iowa defense ranks third in the league allowing 13.4 points and second with 14 forced turnovers. Their offense on the other hand has been very inconsistent. A win here for Iowa would prove to the nation that they are for real and will be a force in the Big 10, but I just don't think they have the offensive weapons to beat Michigan. Wolverines 31 Hawkeyes 24

Saturday 3:30pm CBS - #3 Alabama at #20 Ole Miss [89% of FanIQ is picking Alabama]

The biggest game of the afternoon takes place in the SEC. Alabama has been the most impressive team to me so far while Ole Miss has been among the nations most disappointing teams. Alabama might have the best defense in the nation. This year Crimson Tide is giving up just over 14 points per game, while shutting down both the run (64.4 ypg) and the pass (157.8 ypg). Alabama's offense hasn't been too shabby either while rolling up 463 yards of offense and 40 points per game. Ole Miss on the other parlayed last season's finish to a high early season ranking, that came crumbling down after two lackluster victories and a defeat at the hands of South Carolina. QB Jevan Snead has all the tools to be a great QB but he is very mistake prone and the last team you want to make a mistake on is Alabama. Alabama's defense will be too much as they shut down the Ole Miss offense. Crimson Tide 27 Rebels 10

Saturday 8:00pm CBS - #1 Florida at #4 LSU [66% of FanIQ is picking Florida]

The big game of week 6 also has the biggest question of the season, will Tim Tebow play? Before the season started everyone had this game as the one game standing between Florida and an unbeaten season, and with Tim Tebow out, that very well could happen. LSU escaped with a win in Georgia last week while Florida had a much needed bye week. Everyone knows about both of these teams. Both teams have tremendous defenses, but with Tebow at QB, Florida has a very big edge offensively. If Tebow can't go on Saturday, the Gators will turn to sophomore John Brantley to make his first career start in Death Valley at night, which could spell disaster for the Gators. Brantley is very talented, but I wouldn't want to make my first start at LSU at night. Also, if Tebow does play, will he change the way he plays? Tebow has been almost a battering ram for Florida this season, and after a concussion, who knows if that will change the way he runs the Florida offense. I am going to make two picks here, if you don't like it then tough. Gators 27 Tigers 23 (if Tebow plays) & Tigers 23 Gators 14 (if Tebow sits out)

Now for the "Locks of the Week"

Boston College (+13.5) over Virginia Tech
Kansas (-19.5) over Iowa St.
Georgia (+1.5) over Tennessee
Texas (-32) over Colorado
TCU (+10.5) over Air Force

Ok so there you have it, my picks for week 6 of the college football season. Share your pics below or feel free to tell me why my pics are wrong.

If Air Force was a 10 point favorite, I would be emptying out my bank account to bet on it.  :)

Michigan hasn't really faced a good defense yet.  And a night game at home for Iowa with those fans going nuts, I'm leaning towards Iowa for that game.  But I think it's going to be a real good game.

As much as I appreciate the confidence in Bama, I just don't see a 17-point victory happening.  The last 4 games have been decided by a total of 13 points.  The fans at Ole Miss have been waiting for this game for a long time.  Great game, but Leigh Tiffin boots one from 52 yards to win it for Bama.....27-24.

It'll be interesting to see how the weather affects Missouri's spread offense.  It's been raining all day in the area and the forecast calls for more rain tonight, possibly up to 6 inches by morning.  This game could very well come down to who can run the ball the best in less then ideal conditions.

As a fan of the Big Ten, I'm looking forward to seeing if John Clay can run wild on Ohio State like he has against the rest of the conference.  Ohio State struggled against Navy in week 1 but has been very stout since then.  I predict a low scoring, fast paced game, as the Buckeyes have a pretty good running back themselves.

I just think Missouri has more offense than all of the teams Nebraska has played so far this season combined. It should be a great game though.

Yeah that's what I get for doing this at 1am and not proofreading before bed. It should say TCU (-10.5) not (+10.5).

I think the key for Wisconsin is whether QB Scott Tolzien can continue to throw the deep ball this week.  If he gets a couple of big plays (to the TE's probably), that'll open up the middle for John Clay.

I hope Auburn plays well and wins at Arkansas, and not buys into the hype and suffers a letdown.

Nice blog, Nick!!
Yeah, nice weekend for the south east. Would love to see LSU beat down Florida. I think the Gators are over-rated anyway, having schedule softer than tofu so far.

You are very well. I actually thought 2-0 could have been the score, that was an ugly game.
