Will the Dirty South Continue to Rule the NFL? [Week 6 NFL Live Thread]

Blog Photo - Week 6 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadHello everyone. With Jess out watching her beloved Seahawks, I will be filling in as your caretaker for the Pre-Game show and Live Thread extravaganza. It'll pretty much be the same thing as usual, only with less pretty graphics (I don't have the patience for that) and more snark (because, well, what else am I good for?).

This week's guest is kobe_lova, aka Ash. I'm sure you'll treat her and her football acumen with respect*. Take it away, Ash.

*Note: I'm well aware you will not do that.

Good Afternoon (or Good Morning for all the people on the wrong side of America who are having to get up at the crack of Sunday to enjoy the greatness that is football).

I'm going to start with Thursday's game because well...no one else has.... and I do what I want! (Shout Out to my friiiind!) As you are reading this, I will already be one up or one down! Go Me!

Pittsburgh at Tennessee

Ash: The Steelers have been "okay" at best. I know injuries have been a factor. They seem beatable in every game so far, but with Mendenhall back, I expect things to get a little easier. I want to go against the grain and pick the Titans but they have been simply awful. Thooough, Hasselbeck IS starting. Don't laugh. He may make it interesting. Fun. Exciting. Something. Ummm.... maybe I'll go... Nah, I'm still going Steelers. Steelers by...162, points or yards. Idk, whatever.

That was difficult :|

Eric: I would've picked the Steelers at the time as well, but I'm quite happy to be wrong. Thursday night was a fun sports night. Friday not so much.

Oakland at Atlanta

Ash: Psssh! Atlanta is always the answer!! Go Falcons! Don't make me sweat all game! A "comfortable" win would be fantastic. We still have tons to improve on, so I really hope this isn't the upset special of the day. (I am waiting on it, though...)

Eric: If Atlanta is as good as we think, they will blow out the Raiders. Good teams blow out crappy ones.

Cincinnati at Cleveland

Ash: Hmm... Browns are still winless, correct? Browns by a turnover.

Eric: It feels like a game the Browns can win, but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger, so I'll take the Bengals. It's another tough game for the state of Ohio, but at least it's something other than political ads for them to watch.

St. Louis at Miami

Ash: I think the Dolphins should've won every game so far, and I think the Rams should have won every so far. :\ Miami implodes in dramatic fashion. The Rams are a work in progress. Tannehill vs. Fisher? I'm taking Fisher, but it really will boil down to defense. I think. Rams by 4.5.

Eric: Miami should've won every game so far? Did I miss something? I haven't been paying as much as attention to the NFL as I usually do...Anyway, both these teams seem more "frisky" than "talented" as this point. I'll take Miami because they're home.

Blog Photo - Week 6 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live ThreadIndianapolis at NY Jets

Ash: Of course the Jets are due for a win. Colts by Luck.

Eric: So, who are you picking again? The Colts have the power of Chuckstrong going, and a QB that doesn't suck. The Jets are a smoldering tire fire. Naturally, I'm taking the Jets because football is weird.

Detroit at Philadelphia

Ash: Philly has deserved to lose every single game so far. They are a mess. I can't tell you what the hell is wrong with Detroit, but I hate their coach's face, so I'm taking the other team. Eagles by a penalty call.

Eric: Hey, remember when we thought these teams might be good? I'll pick Philly, because I don't think they're finished teasing and torturing their fanbase just yet. Ash, you probably nailed exactly what will happen.

Kansas City at Tampa Bay

Ash: I just can't care enough.

Eric: Woof. (except for the victory formation)

Dallas at Baltimore

Ash: Hmmm. Romo doesn't fare well against the Ravens D ever, right? I'm not looking it up. I think the Ravens lead the series. I'm not sure the Cowboys can handle Baltimore, depending on which QB shows up... Flacco or Flaccup (this is what I call his alter because he's a...nevermind). Ravens in a close one.

Eric: We will know exactly how good Dallas is by how well the Ravens play. If Dallas sucks, the Ravens will play down to them and win by some ugly score like, I don't know, 9-6. If Dallas is kind of good, the Ravens will play well and win 31-27 or something. Either way, I'm picking Baltimore.

Buffalo at Arizona

Ash: Buffalo is another team that should have a better record. I find them fun to watch, for several reasons. I'm taking the Bills. Upset special.

Eric: The Buzzsaw were exposed last Thursday, but the extra rest and home field will do them good and they'll win. Well, that and playing Buffalo.

New England at Seattle

Ash: The records are the same. The QBs are not. I wanna pick Seattle but the offensive play hasn't done much to make me think they can defeat the Pats. For my friend, I will root for them, but I'm taking the Patriots by uhh... a lot. Go Seahawks?

Eric: The Seahawks have the defense and the home crowd to make this a game. Do they have the offense to score any points against even the mediocre at best New England defense? Signs unclear. Patriots win.

NY Giants at San FranciscoBlog Photo - Week 6 FanIQ Sunday Pre-Game and Live Thread

Ash: Another hmmm. San Fran has my least favorite Harbaugh. The Giants have (has?) a window licking face that bugs me. San Fran is definitely playing like the better team, so I assume they are highly favored. I'm taking the Giants and a Cruz.

Eric: I hate writing about big games, because I'm not a good enough analyst to sound intelligent, and it's hard to snark on good teams. *sigh* San Fran is playing better to some extent, and the Giants don't start winning big games until December, so 49ers it is.

Minnesota at Washington

Ash: Minnesoda.

Eric: Well that was short and sweet. I'll agree, even though I don't want to. Minnesota, is (*facial tic*) good, and Washington is beat to crap, plus DC sports are back to being crushing disappointments. 2:1 odds we have a Kirk Cousins sighting.

Green Bay at Houston

Ash: Oh Gawd. JJ Watt. Clay Matthews. Aaron Rodgers. Quietly doing the his damn thing Matt Schaub. And then there is Foster... Based on the offensive matchup, and the fact that I called the Texans the best team in football recently, I'm taking Houston. Don't make me a liar! I shall enjoy this game. Maybe.

Eric: I'm picking the Packers, but solely for homer reasons. I don't particularly feel good about it. Even with Cushing out, the Houston pass rush should have a field day with the Packers offensive line. Blah.

Bonus Monday Night Football Pick: Denver at San Diego

Ash: I don't think the Chargers have had 2 straight losses yet, it's about time for that. Broncos haven't had 2 straight wins. It's about time for that as well. Add the fact that a Rivers meltdown on MNF would be funny and great (aww, it's okay, Philip. I'll hold you after), I'm taking my favorite Manning! Broncos by a wing and a prayer.

Eric: Broncos win because it's Norv Turner on national TV. Nuff said.

Here's Ash's last word: I fully expect to get all of these wrong besides the Falcons game. Good Luck to most of your teams.

In Christ,

Good day.

I agree, save for the Christ part. Well, and I don't give a crap about what your teams do unless I don't like them, and most of them already played are on bye. Hooray apathy!

For those that aren't apathetic, Q it up here throughout Week 6.

Wow that was just awesome....I can't...I'm speechless. Which is good, because I screamed myself hoarse again anyway. At some point in the third quarter, I was sure I would be walking out of the stadium bummed a little. What an ending. Still a LOT of work to do, but these guys are improving week by week. There's no quit in this team, which is something I haven't seen in Seattle for as long as I remember. Not long ago, being down 13pts, the Seahawks would have called it in. Not this Seahawks team though - battling to the very end!

Man, when it's bad, it's awful. Damn. I doubt the Texans will have a game where nothing is clicking like this again all season.

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

These are the Packers I remember.  I did love this tweet after the Crabtree touchdown.

Now that, ladies and gentlemen, just made ever Texans fan in America kick their boots through the television screen.

I definitely imagine Jan doing that. Leigh too if hippies wore boots. (Sorry ladies!)

Ha! Well that's why I love it. You never know. Some of these came down to the last few minutes. Plus, just about every team sucked today. Soooo many mistakes.

Oh, the "In Christ" was a joke. Big fan of greetings, salutations, and closings.

Good for you, Jen! RG3 is reminding me of Cam Newton A LOT so far. I'm not sure that's a good thing, but it's fun to watch.

Is field goal kicking so advanced now that we're going to rag on kickers for missing 50+ yarders?

Seeing as a guy like Jay Feely just kicked a career long of 61 yards (5 more then his previous high), I think it's almost expected for these guys to be automatic.

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

I think I got every late game wrong, but in 2 of those cases, I can dig it.

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

We just had the greatest moment in NFL Red Zone history.

Not a good day for NFC West kickers

Rest of the AFC beware.  The Patriots offense is starting to get on a serious roll

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

For the record, I'm so rooting for Arizona-Buffalo to finish 3-2.

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

Rams let a win slip away in Miami.  12 penalties, 3 missed field goals and a terrible red zone offense

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

Really, St. Louis? Really?

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

I said earlier that good teams blow out bad teams. Atlanta didn't do that, but they do survive the Raiders after a 53 yard field goal with a second to go. Good for them for getting to 6-0, but I revert to my first sentence.

Ravens/Cowboy game is Rockin.....Them boys might want to find another qb.

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

I gave KC/TB the Woof designation (first of the year!), but damn if there haven't been some weird plays in that one.

Browns putting a hurting on the Bengals

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

And Asante Samuel might've just saved the Falcons perfect season for this week.  Pick 6 on Carson Palmer gives the Falcons a 20-13 lead

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

Holy crap.  The Rams have finally scored their first rushing touchdown of the season

Did Mr Fischer shave his "stache"?

Despite what I read above: Go Skins! RG will keep to quarterbacking and leave the running to Morris.
Our defense will (I hope) show up and give the Vikings their second loss!

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

I knew I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up with this Rams team.

Bradford and company have come back down to reality and are playing like the youngest team in the NFL.

Dolphins looking for the knockout punch halfway thru the 3rd quarter

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

So, Joe Buck is going to call both the Giants-49ers game this afternoon, and Game 1 of the NLCS (also in San Francisco) tonight. If he's late for the baseball game, what will FOX do? Have McCarver call the game solo until Buck gets there. I can't believe they came up with a booth worse than Buck and McCarver.

Where is everyone today? Is it the games? Miss Jess? Anti-Ash boycott? What the hell?

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

Rams special teams have sprung a major leak.  Two missed field goals by Zuerlein, a fumbled kick off and now a long return for the Dolphins

10/14/12   |   Scott   |   53628 respect

Rams are dominating the Dolphins statistically but once again can't score touchdowns

Matty Ice! lulz There is going to be a gazzillion turnovers in this game. Palmer hasn't even gotten "loose" yet.

10/14/12   |   Eric_   |   7716 respect

So far, these games are awful.

Go RAMS!!!
