Will the Dirty South Continue to Rule the NFL? [Week 6 NFL Live Thread]
This week's guest is kobe_lova, aka Ash. I'm sure you'll treat her and her football acumen with respect*. Take it away, Ash.
*Note: I'm well aware you will not do that.
Good Afternoon (or Good Morning for all the people on the wrong side of America who are having to get up at the crack of Sunday to enjoy the greatness that is football).
I'm going to start with Thursday's game because well...no one else has.... and I do what I want! (Shout Out to my friiiind!) As you are reading this, I will already be one up or one down! Go Me!
Pittsburgh at Tennessee
Ash: The Steelers have been "okay" at best. I know injuries have been a factor. They seem beatable in every game so far, but with Mendenhall back, I expect things to get a little easier. I want to go against the grain and pick the Titans but they have been simply awful. Thooough, Hasselbeck IS starting. Don't laugh. He may make it interesting. Fun. Exciting. Something. Ummm.... maybe I'll go... Nah, I'm still going Steelers. Steelers by...162, points or yards. Idk, whatever.
That was difficult :|
Eric: I would've picked the Steelers at the time as well, but I'm quite happy to be wrong. Thursday night was a fun sports night. Friday not so much.
Oakland at Atlanta
Ash: Psssh! Atlanta is always the answer!! Go Falcons! Don't make me sweat all game! A "comfortable" win would be fantastic. We still have tons to improve on, so I really hope this isn't the upset special of the day. (I am waiting on it, though...)
Eric: If Atlanta is as good as we think, they will blow out the Raiders. Good teams blow out crappy ones.
Cincinnati at Cleveland
Ash: Hmm... Browns are still winless, correct? Browns by a turnover.
Eric: It feels like a game the Browns can win, but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger, so I'll take the Bengals. It's another tough game for the state of Ohio, but at least it's something other than political ads for them to watch.
St. Louis at Miami
Ash: I think the Dolphins should've won every game so far, and I think the Rams should have won every so far. :\ Miami implodes in dramatic fashion. The Rams are a work in progress. Tannehill vs. Fisher? I'm taking Fisher, but it really will boil down to defense. I think. Rams by 4.5.
Eric: Miami should've won every game so far? Did I miss something? I haven't been paying as much as attention to the NFL as I usually do...Anyway, both these teams seem more "frisky" than "talented" as this point. I'll take Miami because they're home.
Indianapolis at NY Jets
Ash: Of course the Jets are due for a win. Colts by Luck.
Eric: So, who are you picking again? The Colts have the power of Chuckstrong going, and a QB that doesn't suck. The Jets are a smoldering tire fire. Naturally, I'm taking the Jets because football is weird.
Detroit at Philadelphia
Ash: Philly has deserved to lose every single game so far. They are a mess. I can't tell you what the hell is wrong with Detroit, but I hate their coach's face, so I'm taking the other team. Eagles by a penalty call.
Eric: Hey, remember when we thought these teams might be good? I'll pick Philly, because I don't think they're finished teasing and torturing their fanbase just yet. Ash, you probably nailed exactly what will happen.
Kansas City at Tampa Bay
Ash: I just can't care enough.
Eric: Woof. (except for the victory formation)
Dallas at Baltimore
Ash: Hmmm. Romo doesn't fare well against the Ravens D ever, right? I'm not looking it up. I think the Ravens lead the series. I'm not sure the Cowboys can handle Baltimore, depending on which QB shows up... Flacco or Flaccup (this is what I call his alter because he's a...nevermind). Ravens in a close one.
Eric: We will know exactly how good Dallas is by how well the Ravens play. If Dallas sucks, the Ravens will play down to them and win by some ugly score like, I don't know, 9-6. If Dallas is kind of good, the Ravens will play well and win 31-27 or something. Either way, I'm picking Baltimore.
Buffalo at Arizona
Ash: Buffalo is another team that should have a better record. I find them fun to watch, for several reasons. I'm taking the Bills. Upset special.
Eric: The Buzzsaw were exposed last Thursday, but the extra rest and home field will do them good and they'll win. Well, that and playing Buffalo.
New England at Seattle
Ash: The records are the same. The QBs are not. I wanna pick Seattle but the offensive play hasn't done much to make me think they can defeat the Pats. For my friend, I will root for them, but I'm taking the Patriots by uhh... a lot. Go Seahawks?
Eric: The Seahawks have the defense and the home crowd to make this a game. Do they have the offense to score any points against even the mediocre at best New England defense? Signs unclear. Patriots win.
NY Giants at San Francisco
Ash: Another hmmm. San Fran has my least favorite Harbaugh. The Giants have (has?) a window licking face that bugs me. San Fran is definitely playing like the better team, so I assume they are highly favored. I'm taking the Giants and a Cruz.
Eric: I hate writing about big games, because I'm not a good enough analyst to sound intelligent, and it's hard to snark on good teams. *sigh* San Fran is playing better to some extent, and the Giants don't start winning big games until December, so 49ers it is.
Minnesota at Washington
Eric: Well that was short and sweet. I'll agree, even though I don't want to. Minnesota, is (*facial tic*) good, and Washington is beat to crap, plus DC sports are back to being crushing disappointments. 2:1 odds we have a Kirk Cousins sighting.
Green Bay at Houston
Ash: Oh Gawd. JJ Watt. Clay Matthews. Aaron Rodgers. Quietly doing the his damn thing Matt Schaub. And then there is Foster... Based on the offensive matchup, and the fact that I called the Texans the best team in football recently, I'm taking Houston. Don't make me a liar! I shall enjoy this game. Maybe.
Eric: I'm picking the Packers, but solely for homer reasons. I don't particularly feel good about it. Even with Cushing out, the Houston pass rush should have a field day with the Packers offensive line. Blah.
Bonus Monday Night Football Pick: Denver at San Diego
Ash: I don't think the Chargers have had 2 straight losses yet, it's about time for that. Broncos haven't had 2 straight wins. It's about time for that as well. Add the fact that a Rivers meltdown on MNF would be funny and great (aww, it's okay, Philip. I'll hold you after), I'm taking my favorite Manning! Broncos by a wing and a prayer.
Eric: Broncos win because it's Norv Turner on national TV. Nuff said.
Here's Ash's last word: I fully expect to get all of these wrong besides the Falcons game. Good Luck to most of your teams.
I agree, save for the Christ part. Well, and I don't give a crap about what your teams do unless I don't like them, and most of them already played are on bye. Hooray apathy!
For those that aren't apathetic, Q it up here throughout Week 6.
