FanIQ has been so great in opening up people to new sports. For me, it has really just fueled my passion for each sport I love. One of the sports here I’d like to draw a little more attention to is College Hockey. Here to help me in the creation of polls and growing of the sport on FanIQ are EdSpeshel (Jason), JrCanuckFan (Debi), and Redwingswin (Joel).
Every week, there will be a write up recapping the weekend’s games. Just like College Football has a top 25 AP Poll, College Hockey has a Top 20 USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Poll. And just like the BCS rankings in College Football, there are Pairwise Rankings (Out in January) for College Hockey. All rankings come out on Monday night, so get used to this being a Tuesday ordeal.
There are currently 58 Division 1 college hockey teams. I will of course be focusing more so on the Top 20. Also, unlike the NHL, there are ties in College Hockey. The records are represented as (W-L-T).
Last weeks highlights start with the College Hockey Showcase, an annual match up where Minnesota and Wisconsin play against Michigan and Michigan State. Minnesota entered the weekend at #1, but lost 6-4 to #15 Michigan and tied Michigan State 4-4. Wisconsin, who is having a down year, beat Michigan State 3-1 and #15 Michigan 3-0.
There were plenty of Non-Conference games last weekend, and the best one’s involved an undefeated Air Force team. Air Force plays for a weak conference, but was matched up against a #3 Colorado College and a #9 Denver from the WCHA, the strongest conference out there. #11 Air Force pulled off the upset against Colorado College, but dropped the next game to Denver.
#7 Princeton and #4 Northeastern were featured in the RPI Holiday Tournament. After facing off against each other in the semifinals, Princeton advanced to the Championship game, losing to an unranked Mercyhurst team. Northeastern ended up winning the third place game.
So here are your new top ten rankings. For the full rankings, click here.

More than likely there will be NCAAH Pick ‘ems coming just like the other big sports. For now, we have weekly pick em polls being made by the few people I mentioned above. I hope you check them out!
