To say there have been a rash of bizarre injuries in sports of late would be an understatement. We've had Hunter Pence walk through a sliding glass door, Manchester United's Darren Fletcher knocked out by a rogue toilet door, and of course there was Felix Pie and his infamous twisted testicle. Now it's time to add two more names to the list. Denver Broncos player Brandon Marshall and Oral Roberts star Mariana Camargo.
We'll start with Marshall, who was apparently felled by fast food on Saturday. Marshall said he was at the Westgate Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla. on Saturday and slipped and fell on a McDonald's wrapper. When he slipped, he said he stuck out his hand to brace his fall and it went through a TV entertainment center.
Maybe I should translate for those of you out there. What Marshall is saying here is "I was drunk."
Anyway, Marshall apparently sent out a text after the incident. Here's exactly what the text said - I swear this isn't a joke - according to NFL.com:
"I want to thank everybody for their concerns and let everyone know that I'm okay. It's funny because I pride myself on YAC (yards after catch) and being one of the toughest players to take down once I have the ball in my hands. So for the next couple of days I'm going to take the time to build my confidence back up after allowing that McDonalds bag to take me down and send me through the entertainment center."
Next up is Camargo, star of Oral Roberts' women's basketball team and a member of the Brazilian national team. On Sunday Camargo and her teammates were already facing a tall task by going up against Tennessee in the first round of the Women's NCAA Tournament, but just nine seconds into the game, Camargo crumpled to the ground with torn knee ligaments while chasing down the opening tip.
The culprit: She had slipped on a UT cheerleader’s placard.I believe the placard said "Sucks to be you" on it.
If you want to reminisce some more about bizarre sports injuries, I've got a ton more here for you. It'll provide you with all the moose-related sports injuries you'll ever need.
