Previews:

About me, I am 42 years-old with a wife and three children. I am originally from Long Island and currently reside just north of Nashville, in Gallatin, TN. In the past I have lived in Winston-Salem, NC; Rochester, NY; Knoxville, TN; Miami, FL; Portland, FL; and Birmingham, AL. I've been around.

I have held many jobs including sportswriter.

To let you know where my loyalties lie: I am a fan of the Mets, NY Giants, NY Rangers, Knicks, St. Johns, University of Tennessee; and UNC Basketball. Baseball is my passion, but I am coaching lacrosse this spring.

I have been a professional wrestling fan my entire life (when I was a baby, my mom would sit me in front of the TV when wrestling was on). I have seen Bruno Sammartino wrestle at Madison Square Garden, Matt Bourne at a high school in Portland, and Christian Cage in Nashville.

I am going to shoot from the hip here. This is a column, and these are my opinions. You are free to agree with me, disagree with me, or ignore me.

The Feature:

1. NBA Trade deadline -- Ben Wallace has been criticized since he signed with the Bulls in 2006. He has been called slow and over the hill. The Cavs bet the farm (Gooden and Hughes) that the problem was the Bulls and not Wallace. That's interesting, if you consider he has played for two coaches in Chicago and has averaged about 6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. He will be effective in the post-season, half court game, but at this point in his career he will have problems with Garnett and Rasheed Wallace.

2. Giants win SB XLII -- Yes this is late, the G-Men won almost three weeks ago. This is one of the first times I can remember a team on that type of roll. A few over-looked points during the G-Men's march to the championship: For the past two seasons, Cory Webster couldn't cover a twin sized bed with a King sized blanket and all of a sudden he practically shuts down T.O. and Moss in back-to-back games. Was there a better mid-season pick-up than Domenik Hixson? Kevin is the Boss and now number 80 is Jeremy Who. Kevin Boss was the impact rookie of the playoffs.

3. Isaiah Thomas buries the Knicks -- Zeke has to have a stack of compromising pictures of the Dolans in his desk drawer. He is the boss, it is his team and it has been an embarrassment on and off the court. There is no place in sports, or in any business for sexual harassment. Under the New York media microscope, someone has to think "Hey we are gonna hung out to dry if we can't shut this thing down". Instead they go to court and look like a bunch of frat boys making sexist comments to co-eds. In the locker room, His public feud with Stephon Marbury was immature. Finally and most importantly, the team flat out STINKS! There is no plan to improve, they are way over the cap and have Jerome James (2 years remaining), Jared Jeffries (4 years) and Malik Rose (2 years) making over $18.5M combined taking up space on the roster.

The Wrap:

  • If the batters Roger Clemons faced and the pitchers Barry Bonds faced were juicing, were they competing with an unfair advantage?
  • Why doesn't anyone ask how many players in all sports compete while under the influence of stimulants?
  • There is a line from Star Trek VI when Kirk asks "Why would God need a starship?" I ask "Why would Belichek need to tape other team's signals?"
  • If the Marlins build a stadium and no one shows up, does it make a difference? (More on the Fish next week)

Closing Credits:

  • The Oscars are this week. Looking over the nominations, how many of you asked yourself the same questions I did: "What?" ; "When did that come out?" ; "Who picks these movies?"
  • Presidential politics is fascinating, but congress is a big morass.
  • "Lost" is back big time. I hope the fall TV season is good because this season sucks. I look forward to "Eureka" and "Burn Notice" this summer.

I am out for today. Feel free to send me your comments, you don't have to agree with me and I don't have to agree with you, it's the dialog that counts.
