Well, it's offical : Hasek's retiring. Well.. ALMOST offical.
by Hales_McGee

Official as of 11am Monday, via press conference, anyway...

read it here:
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/wings/2008-06-08-hasek-retirement_N.htm

and there's a longer story with "more info" from an "insider" here:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AnBGzaCaxNRh26kC.j5V5XI5nYcB?slug=ap-redwings-hasekretires&prov=ap&type=lgns

Don't take my use of quotations as an indication that I in no way believe the news, because I definitely do. I've been bracing myself for it for a couple of years, actually. Hasek was a legend, but he's had his days in the limelight, and they're behind him. I have complete confidence in Ozzy and I know he won't be letting anyone down. I also feel pretty confident that they can whip their up-and-comer, Jimmy Howard, into a Wings-worthy goalie.
Still, there's that slight twinge of sadness just knowing that Dom won't be out there on the ice anymore.

Thanks for everything, Dominator.

Dom was a huge asset to Detroit. And Any Detroit fan, understands and knows how important he was for the team. We all respect the Dom. Even though we wanted to rip off his skates late in the season and early in the playoffs he did a lot for the team and the organization. I will miss him, but I think Ozzie proved himself throughout these playoffs. Howard also seems like he's going to have a lot to offer to the Wings, he just needs more experience and needs to get himself on the Ice. All i can say now, is I wish you the best of luck Dom.

We're all going to miss Dom but it's for the best. Dom lost his job and what better way to go out than to be a Stanley Cup Champ again. I think Ozzie has shown all season that he's more than capable to be the full time goalie. The little I have seen of Howard when he was up this season, he looks like he has what it takes. Howard just needs to mature and he will get his experience. Plus Ozzie will be helping to mold Howard into the goalie that he needs to be to play for the Wings. Anyways, Dom is going out on top and I must say that I was so glad to see him at the awards ceremony tonight, I almost cried.
