While everyone in the state of West Virginia may be related, it's the Colorado Buffaloes who have all the family connections. It's not terribly rare, but uncommon that the starting quarterback is the coach's son at the Div 1 college football level. That sort of thing happens at the high school level all the time, but you just can't pull it off with boosters breathing down your neck. However, the Dan - Cody Hawkins father-son relationship is not the family connection at Colorado that's the most bizarre.
There's an uncle-nephew relationship in Boulder and it's not between a coach and son. True freshman running back Darrell Scott (2), who will figure prominently into tonight's game, will be on the field at the same time as his uncle. Yes, his uncle. Josh Smith, the Buffs sophomore starting wide receiver is Scott's uncle.
Even Kentucky is dumbfounded.
All of these family connections will need to come up big tonight if the Buffaloes are going to upset the 21st ranked Mountaineers who will arrive in Boulder very upset after losing to East Carolina two weeks ago.
Pat White and Noel Devine -- who's reason enough to tune in -- NEED to get the ground game going in the worst way. It's what they do best, and they should have a speed advantage tonight. With the weather forecast calling for a great deal of wind, expect head coach Bill Stewart to pound the football as much as a spread option attack can.
Buffaloes QB Cody Hawkins can't make any game changing mistakes, and just let the guys around him do all the playmaking.
81% are picking the Mountaineers. I've done the same. Enjoy.
